i might have a little trouble trying this acceleration test on a road test. I frequently drive two lane highways and find myself behind a big ass semi that I want to go around. My Ram Hemi handles 45 to 80 acceleration quite nicely. How will a Gen 3 Tacoma with the the 3.5 V-6 and an automatic transmission do? (Yeh, I know that the 3.5 is no Hemi.)

How is that hard to test on a road test? Can't you just find and open stretch of road.... do 45 then try and accelerate to 80.

Why would you do 80 in a 45 any way.

I hope this helps, although I have no specifics for you. I know my Tacoma is not a dragster, but I am pleasantly surprised by how fast it is, and I pass on rural roads all the time. You might find real numbers in a comparison review online or in a magazine.

It's not that far off power to weight. Ram V8 double cab is 5300lbs give or take, and Tacoma V6 double cab is 4200 give or take. That's near 13.5lbs/hp vs about 14.25lbs/hp. If you're forced to stay low in the RPM range, of course the hemi low end torque will help you, but there's this thing called putting your foot down on the accelerator pedal.

A few listed in the signature
All based on what gear and RPM you're at. If you're in the powerband... 3500 rpm plus it's great. Below that dropping gears etc... you'll want some space.

I seem to remember looking at acceleration test results from 50 to 80 (or something like that), it did well compared to the competition. But that's kind-a less useful that 0-60 results in the real world IMO.
Doing 45 with light throttle the Tacoma will be in 6th, floor it and it'll jump down at least 2 if not 3 gears. Problem is here, jumping down 1 gear and the transition is as quick (ie slow) as any other auto truck / SUV / non sports-car out there, but jumping 2 or more it seems to take eons, so you get this massive lag of absolutely nothing before it takes off, which is very annoying. You can overcome this, by not flooring it quickly and moving the accelerator more smoothly, then it will jump down 1 gear accelerate a bit, jump down the next then you can floor it.

So 50-80 starting in the right gear, it'll do well. 50-80 starting in top gear, it'll probably get crushed by a Prius.

    Depends on the drop off.

Sorry we already passed you guys in the 2nd gens on the highway past the drop off entrance. You're more than welcome to try it yourself since you're back there still.

Is the dealer I bought my truck from the only one in the country that allows test drives?

My Tacoma is 45-80 . Well mater a fact it spins a good distance when you floor it. They said limited Tacoma was faster because it has all the goodies.

Hit the gas. Wait a few seconds for downshift/rev out. Then accelerate like a bat out of... its mind.

My experience in the 40- 75 (speed limit) range.

This transmission and motor combo has a kickdown delay that is fairly pronounced and super annoying. Stomp on it, wait for a 2 Mississippi count, then she winds up like a leaf blower

Coming from a 2010 Prius to a 2017 Taco with a 3.5 V-6. I can tell you that my Taco will blow the doors off a Prius.

I4 and I'll rev till 4K or so if I'm casually passing, more if I'm trying to take the piss out of em. 45 to 80 feels like not even seconds, but that's my perception, I'll have to get it on video one day when I'm bored. But for real I'll get to 80 with the quickness and I'll do it all day. ALL DAY.
