Today was a fun day. My Quincy QT-54 air compressor arrived! The delivery guy got it close to the final spot but he was already late or I would have seen if he could have helped a bit more moving it. But the engine hoist did just fine.

But got it wired up and almost finished the hard piping. Just need to mount the hose reel and get the soft line for it. Also added a drop to hook up my old, quiet compressor to the piping. The Quincy is a workhorse....but is loud. The old compressor is quiet. So just flipping a couple valves will let me use it instead.

My only complaint was the fitting that was factory installed leaked. Easy enough to fix but annoying to have to. Hopefully thats the only leak though! I havent leak tested the piping yet as the thread sealant is still curing.

Question for contracting appropriate trade for dryer venting and exhaust improvements. If I had time, I'd do it myself. I had assumed a plumber would take it on along with the washer supply box I want work on too. But the typical plumber websites don't mention it, and one who just returned my call said they don't do dryer venting. Am I barking up the wrong tree? The fewer contractors I need to chase down and meet on a tight schedule before our move, the better. I'll be at the new house for a few hours tomorrow off work, and am trying to meet as many contractors as I can.

Dryer vent ducting: Dryer box to vertical stack in wall to large radius 90 to rigid vent pipe about 12 ft run in attic to exterior exhaust with cage and self-closing vanes. All this would replace existing routing and materials.

Do I need an HVAC contractor to handle this?

Typically any general contractor can handle that. I know my dad did when he owned his business and the contractor I worked for in high school also did it. We never had our subs do the dryer vent as it was simple and you could have a $10 kid do it

Yeah, I'm a $12 kid. OK, thanks for the advice. I could get him to bid on the dry rot damage to the side entry door to the garage too while I'm at it.

Whatever you do don't screw it together or you will make a lint catcher. A sweeped elbow cuts down on the noise and lessens the friction loss but honestly you would be OK with the rigid 90.

 

Use an inwall dryer box and foil tape all the seams in rigid galv ducting and insulate it in an unconditioned space

 

and all that can be yours for 120%

 

I found out the cause of my cracked grout is not from the floor being springy. It's the really REALLY shitty job they did with the thin-set. I just pulled up another tile straight from it, and all the was holding it in place was the grout.

 

Must have been really dry thinset. Have a few popped tiles I am keeping an eye on for cracks.

 

Dry or it sat for a while and skinned over.

 

I can see the full imprint of the bottom of the tile in every single spot I've pulled up... Except where they missed thinset at... I wish I had the time to pull them all up and start over. However, it would end up being a huge job because they put all the tile down, and then the cabinets.

I did some crown molding in the spare bedroom I've been working on. It was too tall for the miter saw fence so I bought the kreg crown jig.. holy crap. I wish I bought that years ago.

 

A friend of mine got a new compressor like yours just not the same brand, he said it was making too much noise so he enclosed it and put sound deadening insulation on the inside. He turned it on and it was quiet to begin with and you close the door and you could hardly hear it.

 

I'm attempting to fix the ones that come up. Every time I clean the grout out of another tile, I find it to be loose too. So, I went from fixing one tile when the job started.... to being at my 9th tile I have removed. 3 are back down and dry. Adding a flexible grout/caulking stuff my local contractor had me try out too.
