What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Looks like the upper BJ is replaced with a horizontal heim joint, and the lower balljoint appears unchanged, just going into big steel sleeve on the bottom that looks different than stock. I can't even begin to imagine how they maintain rigidity in this design. Also the loss of uptravel due to the bend in the arm will likely be noticed. It's like @Blackdawg said, it is like a 4x4 spindle lift. Cheesy if you ask me, but I suppose experimentation is fine, just hope they can make something more convincing than this for their next model.

 

What is going on with that LCA? The center of the front has that divet which must result in one hell of a stress concentration.

 

My goodness the more I look at that the more it offends me.

 

It's a pretty lousy initial mock-up for sure, we shall see what their second attempt or final comes out to be soon enough.

 

Ah it's just a mockup, I was under the impression someone was selling this as a final product.

It doesn't have a hole for the fluid level piece if you have that...so I just drilled mine in and used original hardware, so now I have a spare pump.

no 5.29 gear sets are made for the 8'' Clamshell so not sure i'll do that.

If i decided to do the LS swap..then i'll probably have to go back to 4.10s..ha

Its a horizontal Uniball on the spindle. LBJ is stock. He has the stock bumps rasied up a bit as he is running 37'' tires on his 4runner with this kit. Thus limited the up travel to keep the tire from eating the fender.

It is a spindle lift. Look at the CV angle, it's like its at full droop at ride hight.

The Upper Unibal is under the UCA. so its like a 1-1.5'' spindle lift.

That said, i don't think you'll loose up travel at all. In fact, i think that is where you gain some travel. It would be down travel id be worried about with the CV axle binding.

Granted you could grind out the cup like we do to tundra axles on 3.5'' LT kits to help prevent that.

When our stock UCA and LCA bump out, the CV has lots of room to go up. So i can see how this would merit you some more travel from the gained up travel.

I just think Limit straps will be required for certain..

 

I'd have to see it move to determine if there is still the potential for all the uptravel. But I think this would just stuff the UCA into the inner fender and leave you with a permanent uncomfortably tall ride height.

If it doesn't work out..then i'll just wait and swap my MCM kit to Igot and get the XLT Solo kit for Frank while i cage him and 4 link it...and ls...ahhhh...its only money and dreams right?

I'm seriously considering the MCM kit as a graduation present to myself when the time comes. Haha Frank is still pretty streetable with it right? Although I'm still looking for a cruiser for a DD, so maybe that's not too important.

 

Planning for the future. My truck is starting to get heavy. The 881s are handling it for now, but I think the addition of a winch will be too much. Sensible me says I'll just move up to the 882 coil.

Fun me wants to know what the spring rate for the standard king CO is. Can't find it listed. Anyone know? I see they offer a 700# spring as an option, but I think that would be too much for my truck.

Ahh cool. That should be more than adequate.

 

I've got 650 on mine and haven't had a problem. No winch but front bumper and skid. Down the road I'll have full skids and a winch. Just food for thought

 

My thoughts now are that I'm happy with the ride height of the 500# 881 with a bumper, sliders, ifs skid, and trans skid. Surely the addition of a winch and moving up 100# on the coils will be sufficient. Remember, 4 banger.

 

Mmm forgot about that. Yeah 600# will be plenty then. Thought it was just the bumper and ifs skid on right now

 

I'd be careful. Doesn't look like that topper was made for our trucks. The lines aren't really matching up. I'd pull that back a bit for sure. There's a pretty good amount of movement between the cab and bed even just driving down the road.

 

Oh yeah. the LT didn't interfer with Frank's street manners at all. I guess the only bad thing is when it rains as the tires stick out far enough that the rooster tails make it impossible to see out the side haha but only in heavy rain.

Otherwise..smooth as butter.

I love it.

Hard to go back to a normal front end. Im constantly slamming on the brakes in Igor because i want to go Frankenstein fast on stuff then remember..oh yeaaaahhh...no LT..haha
