Front Body Mount Noise Fix - That noise may not be your leaf springs

The instructions say:
At the ends of the front bumper, inside the fender well there is a small L bracket that must have the lower nut removed before raising the body

Did you have to remove any bracket? Doesn't look like it from the op's writeup. Also, did you lube the inside of the bushings before installing? Thanks again!

 

Those instructions are for the 2nd gen Tacoma, so the text I wouldn't worry about. Follow the OP's write up. The important part of the instructions is the diagram showing the orientation of everything to be installed. And yes, I did lube the bushings before I installed them. I've read some arguments for lubing them and for not lubing them. I've always lubed poly bushings in the past, so this time was no different for me. Cheap insurance just to keep them quite is how I think if it.

 

Here is my driver side front cab / radiator mount. Replacing today with the ES bushings. Does this look bad, worn, or misaligned?

 

My front has been squeaking and creaking since almost new , and this is the problem I think. Any angle or twists like driveway or washboard and it sounds like it's got 200k on it.

 

From the outside like that it will probably look fine, and it does in your photo. The trouble area is inside where the two bushings meet. Look at the OP's photos for a bad set of OEM bushings. You will only know when you get the bushings off of the truck.

 

Man, I just got the bushing kit in the mail an these things are pretty small. Going to install tonight so I'll let you all know how it goes

 

I replaced my bushings last night. Drivers side was a huge pain in the ass. The bolts came out fine when taking it apart but putting it back together was a nightmare and it took me forever to get the bolt through everything. I think the core support has shifted towards the front of the truck making bolt have to go in angled so its not totally straight. The passanger side bolt was straight and came off and went back together smoothly, but after driving it around and rechecking it is not even more angled than the drivers side. Not sure if something shifted or what. Arg. Im going to take it apart again to see if i can somehow straighten it back up. Any tips? Do i just try to use a pry bar on the core support somehow to get it all straight like it was when i put it back together. And, is it just going to shift around again after driving? Not sure if its ok to be angled like it is or how to prevent it from becoming angled in the future. This fix did fix most of all of noises i was hearing and for some reason the truck now seems to be driving much better and smoother.

Sorry to hear about your problem peppinoss, but yeah, did your warranty run out already?
I've got 20k on the clock in mine and I think the warranty's good for 3yr-36k or so, but no problems and I don't worry about the bumps on the road or baby it.

My best tip is, if it's under warranty try the dealer first and if at first you don't succeed, try another.

Still under warranty. I'm afraid now that if I take it in to them to fix it they will deny me because i replaced the bushing and will claim I messed it up.

 

How was the alignment on that bolt originally when it still had the factory bushing in it, was it angled like that or did something shift when you had it apart.

 

driver side was angled, passenger side was straight before the install. When i put it back together passenger side looked straight. I think it shifted after driving it maybe 20 miles or so and going over a few speedbumps.

 

OK so after you did the install they were both straight and everything looked good and then after a test drive that one was angled correct?

That seems like a lot of movement, I'm not sure how it could move that much. I agree with you that's really weird and that's not gonna be good for the bushing either. I'm getting ready to do mine. I'm gonna see what else is a attached there because something else has to be moving. Keep us posted on this please

 

im going to go back in there tonight and see if i can get it straight again. hopefully your drivers side is not a pain in the ass like mine was. will keep you guys posted after i go mess with it again tonight.

 

Got back in there and got it straightened out. As soon as i loosened the nut a little everything went straight. Maybe it was just too tight? I torqued to 34. I also test drove it for a bit afterwards and it looks like it has not moved so thats good. I'll check on it in a couple days and see if it stays put.

 

Good to hear. I did not have a torque wrench when I did mine, but they were nice and snug. I have not had any issues with them since installation. Glad you were able to work out the little kink!

I have a squeak like this ... excellent post.

 

On a side note I also was getting a low pitch squeak mixed with an almost grinding like noise when turning the wheel at low speeds or stopped. Turned out i needed to lube my total chaos UCA uniballs. Put some triflow lube on there and noise gone. Maybe check that on yours too?
