Ok, I have read the headliner removal threads and know I can do it on my turd gen. What I am looking for is a picture of the headliner removed on a turd gen with a sunroof. I want this so I can see if it is going to be worth going through all this to install a HAM antenna on the roof. Just not sure, there is enough room between the back of the cab, stock antenna, dome light and back of the sunroof to make the installation worthwhile. Somebody must have done this already.

I am sure there is enough room for an antenna...as long at the mounting base doesn't protrude down too far. (most antenna Cb/ham/etc are pretty good about clearance) Pop the plastic hooks out and peek inside...not too hard.
Or be ballsy and just pop a hole in the roofo_O

My concern is there will be a support behind the sunroof so I wont be able to use the space between the end of the sunroof (opened) and the dome light. I think I will take the dome light out and see what I can see through there.

Did you learn anything yet? I'm hoping to drill my unicorn this weekend and give her a horn.

I did, there is about 4-5 inches between the end of the sunroof opened and the dome light. There is no way to have the mount fit between the sunroof open and the roof. Looks like less than a 1/2". I did not remove the headliner but removed enough to pull down a side and look in. Sorry to small for pictures. I will be doing this sometime in the next few months.

I did it but didn't take pics. But, if you open your sunroof, and poke your head up to look between the roof and the glass that is retracted back with a flashlight, you will see you have LOTS of room. I did not pull my headliner all the way out. I drilled the hole and fished the wire and ensured I was not interfering with the side airbag.

@ChrisK7UND 7 can you show me an outside picture of where you mounted the antenna. I wanted to put it between the back of the cab and the rear opening of the sunroof. Also what NMO mount did you go with?

Good to know. Perhaps I'll be the first then. I'll take photos after I pull these liner and try to document where I put the antenna.

How are you liking the v710 down by the brake pedal? I was planning to put my v71 behind the rear driver's seat with all kinds of extension wires.

The Radio seems very happy there and I don't have plans on moving it. Lots of room and free air, still needed an extension for the mike but just a short one. Everything else worked.

No issues with the audio at highway speeds? No problems with the radio obstructing the pedals?

none, it is not close to the pedal just on the pedal bracket up out of the way. Take a look up there.

Here are pics. I'm about halfway between the shark fin and the sunroof opening. No issues. No leaks. I do get some wind whistle however.

Looks like it is right in front of the dome light. Great job!

There is a structural beam that crosses. I am in front of that. You should be able to see it if you look between the roof and sunroof opening with the glass open.

Yep, the structural beam is what the dome light is mounted to. Thanks
