2000 toy taco 4wd shift lever stuck Manual Transmission

I installed new 2.7 3rz motor manual transmission with new clutch and now have a problem with the 4wd shift lever stuck in 4wd high position. Shift lever does not move, seems to have a bit of play but not neutral position. Truck drives fine, five speed shifts perfect but 4wd sensor light stays on. Have locking hubs which are in free position and when locked 4wd ingages normally. Any advice much apreciated.

The same thing happened to one of my trucks. I do not want to be responsible for you messing up your truck, but what I did was drive it slowly at idle speed in 1st gear and put a little bit of M-A-N into the shifter as I forced it out of 4wd.
