Yeah for sure I was just curious, it has 4:30 or something, I haven't really looked at it.

you have 4.10s. So right there you'll have to spend money to either try and find a 4.30 front or redo both diffs to something that matches. Plus, 500 bucks is pretty steep.

Not about to read all 600 pages of this, but is the CS-144 alternator still working good? I'm waiting for mine to die so I can justify the swap.

Also, what ham antennas and mounts are you using?

    yep, still working great.

Im using NMO mounts for all my antennas other than the CB. Drill a 3/4'' hole in whatever and you're good to go.

I don't quite remember what antenna i have..

I know that this is what i'll be replacing ALL of mine with.

    https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dmn-nr770hbnmo

Super awesome antenna, tune's up great. What my dad is running. and he has amazing range.

The Larson NMO270 is also very nice.

    can't go wrong with either.

Something else to consider is wavelength.

1/4 wave is good for foothills/mountain/canyons, poor flat land distance.
5/8 wave is good for foothills, marginal mountain/canyon, & moderate flat land.
1/2 wave is moderate foothill, poor mountain/canyon, best flat land distance.

So depending on where you find yourself..might want to think about that. Granted i think the performance differences are marginal so not THAT important.

Where are you getting these wavelength details? Also, up here I am almost constantly pin striping my truck and running in willow thickets and forested areas. How much abuse can the mount and antenna take?

One of the trails I'm thinking of has a tree half fallen about 9 feet above the trail floor, would that just destroy these?

They can take whacks and stuff.

But considering how tall your rig is now and how low that tree was..you'd probably want to remove them in that situation. Very easy to unscrew them from a NMO mount.

Also i guess idk where you plan on putting your antenna..

And i got that info from other Hams...no book or anything. I'm not sure id believe it totally..but it kinda makes sense.

I'm thinking middle of the roof. Bed might get ditched eventually since the bedsides are rusting away on me, and the best ground plane is center of roof.

Good to know I could unscrew it if needed. Hmm... I'm going to take antenna theory in the fall, but radiation patterns are super cool and really complex. I'll see what I can find on those.

Dumb question, but are there springs for these ham antennas like for CB?

I'll have to read more on this later, page 17 talks about 1/4 wave vs 5/8 wave. This seems to say that a 1/4 wave around VHF is a 5/8 wave at UHF, and super popular for that reason. Happy reading!

there are no springs. And the NMO mount in the roof comes off very easily if needed. Hell you can take em off and put caps on the other part if you don't want the antenna on all the time.

Correct, the two antennas i linked to are 1/2 wave at 2m(VFH) and 2x5/8 for 70cm(UHF).

i'll have to read the article later!

Okay, just bought a new ECU for this pig.

There are two..well..almost 3 1997 ECUs made for tacomas.

I have the early one which spans from 09/1996 to 05/1997. PN 89661-04310 retails for $703 new

I just bought an ECU from 06/1997 to 10/1997. PN 89661-04410 retails new now for $1183

Only made for 4 months, but I believe THIS is the 1997 ECU that works with the TRD blower. It was only around for 4 months, and it is the most sought after ECU for guys doing 3.4l swaps because it doesn't have as much emissions/sensor stuff as other years. Plus takes boost. So finding a used one under $400 isn't easy..naturally.

    I hope..

    If this doesn't work.

    Fuckin blower is coming off.

    Pull the ECU. haha

If its the 89661-04410 PN on it..then i rest my case. haha If its the 89661-04310 number..then something else is seriously wrong with my truck..haha

I would be curious. Its not super hard to do, but not super fun just because of the angle you have to work at. Its behind the glove box. Just remove the glove box and then the black sheild that is straight up. Its held on by 3 screws, the glove box is 2. There you'll see it tucked up above the AC condensor/Heater core. Just unplug the plugs then undo the two 10mm bolts. It'll pull straight out. PN will be on the sticker on the top of it.

Would love to see which one you have. But...don't HAVE to pull it obviously. But if you do. Let me know!
