More shit then I ever planned on doing
In high school we would jump the fence and walk around the zoo at night drinking beer. Did it every weekend for like a month. It was pretty cool till one night the cops swarmed in. We all ran into the hills and spent the next 4hrs laying in poison oak hiding from the helicopter. That was the last time we did that.

Just created, the Berryessa Snow Mtn wilderness 330,780 "under review" whatever that means. Some of the best local to me forest rd backcountry trails.

Also Giant Sequoia 327,769, Carrizo Plain 204,107, Mojave Trails 1,600,000, Sand to Snow 154,000 (acres)

"The unprecedented review by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke could result in rescinding, shrinking or altering uses of the monuments, all established on federally owned land or water and covering more than 230 million acres."

That area from Indian Valley res to Mt Sanhedrin and Snow to the east is my favorite place to getaway, because it is a few hours drive and has a truly remote feel to it. Last trip i had extra gas and still almost ran out. Think a saw only one or two other vehicles in 3 days, both from a distance. Not sure what the review is about. I know some protected monuments in Utah have mineral and oil riches that some would like to tap. Mostly forest up there. Hopefully nothing changes as it took many years of hard work establishing that wilderness monument.

i dont think you will notice much if they rescind it. will still be a national forest like it was prior. they will just be allow claims and logging within national forest rules. i dont agree with it though, but they shouldnt be taking away its public use, or i hope not at least.

in his runup trump mentioned giving national forests back to states to control, maybe people missed that? thats a lot of land in california that will no longer allow dogs. also the state wont be able to fund the staffing of it all, bet it will be easy to buy pieces of that land when they start auctioning it off. not that he will be able to do this, but was one of hos campaign talking points.

I'm glad the review is happening. Monuments are for the preservation of unique things in the smallest amount of space required to protect the asset. These latest batches of designations have encompassed huge swaths of land and are not in the spirit or requirement for a national monument by any stretch of the imagination.

No one is arguing things shouldn't be protected. I am arguing that protection should be something states and feds agree on and if those are recreational lands, accommodation be made for the users. The way it is today, access is a signature away from removal from public access-and if that happens, everyone loses.

Oh, and no real plan exists to manage these "monuments" either...which makes them seem more like a political favors than actual land management.

I understand the need to harvest natural resources from these large federally controlled areas. Just don't want to share those forest roads with logging trucks. But I need some 2x4s to repair my deck. I get it. I just have a special place in my heart for that area.

Enjoy. Wheeling will never be the same afterwards. Went last year and couldn't go this year with our son arriving beginning of May but I've already started planning for next year.
