Damn, sorry to hear you're having issues with it. Would be curious to see a workaround for the pilot bearing. If that could be overcome it should be fairly easy to weld bell housings together and use the 5spd behind the 4.0

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
It shouldnt be that bad, at least mine.. if not all have a pocket in the crank, finding a bearing or bushing that fit and the clutch combo would be where it might get interesting. The are both hydraulic push type release, and the size is close. A little ober 10 inch clutch on 4.0 and 9 inch on the late 2tr.

I believe one of the Australian spec 70 series cruisers.has the 1gr with the r151 5 speed. But I have not been able to source that crap yet.

I still love the truck, but man its frustrating. I have had the trans out 3 times in 20k miles. Luckily I dont have to pay for my labor, and I have the tools. But time is money, so this has been expensive.

You tried... I remember my dad talking about having to do that shit back in the day...

Edit, what year is your truck?

Yeah, if you do it right it's not gonna hurt anything (usually) but helps prolong your clutch but since it also means using the clutch pedal twice as much it could also make this particular bearing even worse due to its design...

Edit: do both the 6spd and 5spd have TOBs in constant contact with the pp fingers?

For 2nd gen Taco i believe so. However mine is adjusted out now it does have a gap. Small, but present. Also in effort to unfuck the thing i deleted the delay valve. (Fluid accumulator) it doesnt seem to do anything with the current clutch, but it did reduce the chatter on the ceramic clutch to get rid of it.

It is by no means the worst transmission, it jist pisses me off because for the momey and year it should be better. W and R series since 1985 have shifted better on average than the RA60F.

It is worlds better than my 86 f250 was! And its better than toyota L series were.

Its much stronger than any W or G series, but it more clunky too.

I actually had a 1994 civic, i did all kinds of swapping and playing around. On of the transmissions I put in it shifted like this one haha.

I considered the T56. The ratios just arent for me.

I tow a lot and that first gear is killer for me.

If any body else ever owend a 2nd gen 4cyl 5 speed 4x4, that transmission feels perfect IMO. I may habe had an above average experience, but I also beat the piss out of it without issue.

Rugularily drove it like an ass, towed at least v6 Taco capacity etc etc. Worst case i gernade one haha, but they are cheaper and there may be upgrades for them (marlin and others upgrade R series)

As far as upgrades go, if needed.. there were changes over the years, so its hard to say what is out there.
