2004 3.4 v6 sputtering at acceleration CE Light On

This morning i went to start up my truck and everything seemed fine, driving to school i notice my truck isn't accelerating well. i could feel the truck sputtering a bit when i accelerated. I don't go on the freeway and just drove the truck home. Hoping someone has an answer to fix this and make my CE light go off . At first the CE light was flashing and then it went to a solid light

 

Hey Andrew. Without knowing the code from the CE light it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what the issue is. If you have an AutoZone or something similar nearby, they can usually hook up diagnostic scanner and tell you what the code is.
I had something similar like this happen to me, and it turned out to be a cracked spark plug. My friend has an '04 Tacoma 3.4 and the exact thing you described happened to him. He was able to get to the dealership and they installed new plugs/wires which corrected the problem.

i described my problem to my buddy who owns an auto shop and he said i probably need a new coil

 

I had a similar issue with my 1996 3.4L V6, I checked the codes, I had two: P0305 (cylinder 5 misfire detected) and P0401 (exhaust gas recirculation flow insufficient detected). Here is what I did to correct it, so far so good; I changed my spark plugs and plug wires, and I replaced a vacuum hose that became brittle and broken (the hose from the intake manifold to the power steering pump...) It's a misfire, often caused by something in the ignition like a coil pack, fouled plug or bad plug wire. It can also be caused by a bad fuel injector.

There are things you can do to check it yourself, first and foremost get the cel trouble code checked to determine which cylinder it's on

Next step can take some time, but it can narrow things down.

Check your plugs and wires and replace if they're due, 30k miles for plugs, wires should be replaced if they're worn, I do mine with every timing belt, bout every 90k miles

You can do the coil pack swap if that doesn't solve it.

Coil packs are on every odd cylinder, 1,3 and 5 and have a wire off it to the even cylinder. If you threw a code on cylinder 1 let's say, move the coil pack to #3 and if the code moves, you found the issue.

If that doesn't solve it I'd use the same swap method with the fuel injectors.

It's a good idea to replace the oring on the fuel injectors you pull out, especially if they haven't been removed in a long while

The P0401 code mentioned by johanh is the catalytic converter being flooded with unburned fuel. Drive your truck mile that too much and you'll fry it the cat or do damage to the engine burn your valves, so good luck to you, I hope you find the problem

 

ive had the same problem and it was my Mass Airflow Sensor, the ecu is probably getting a bad reading and the motor is leaning out and it would sputter (this is what happened to me) still recommend to scan the codes tho, high chance that it can be a coil pack too
