Lol at dealerships doing PDIs. They have a dealer monkey rip the plastic off, put dealer stickers on and screw the license plate holder in. Then they bill Toyota for a PDI and put the truck on the lot. Source: good friend is a Toyota tech and says this is standard. Messed up, but standard.

When i worked at BMW, the process actually took some time. It required hooking up to compute, filling tires to proper inflation and other odds and ends.

Torque wrench set at 18 did this. I would recommend letting your dealer deal with it. Wondering if the recall could be related to substandard bolts. It does say in the recall the are replacing "fasteners".
I am probably the knucklehead NJtaco421 is referring too.

Don't kick your own ass too bad, it happens. I've screwed up perfectly good things by "checking" to make sure everything was correct too.

18 lbs right? That is like nothing. Aren't the spark plugs like 10 lbs?

I saw the pictures of where it can potentially leak. Apparently this is a 3 piece housing front half of the pumpkin, axle tube area, and the cover. So I could see how torque spec could be important. You would figure it is sealed using RTV. I guess it's a gasket however, so torquing it to spec plus sequence of tightening it is important also because of potential gasket spread during tighten.

I just got off the phone with my dealership. They were aware of the recall and told me replacement of the bolts is part of the recall. Appointment next Thursday morning. We will see what happens.
