Fuck yeah and peace be with you too broham.
Mmm. Yes. What he said. Don't ever put a fridge in your truck. That's absurd. You could bring a camp stove. Or... you could build a fire. But for the love of god don't build a kitchen where you could have used that space for something useful. Hype total bullshit.

There is an 8" sema wheel. I'm on my phone. I'll have to find a link.

I meant the weight of the wheels you linked is about 20lb lighter than the stock ones. So that offsets the heavier tire.

I get that a lot of people do things strictly for looks (spacers for lift), but my goal is to go places that a lot of people can't get to easily. I want to visit remote places and I need to build something that is reliable and functional. The vehicle is also my daily driver, so I am keeping that in mind.

The goal for the next year or so is to learn more about my vehicle, the 4 wheeling hobby and to make a plan, for both the vehicle and travel.

I need better tires, no matter what. If I never went off-road, I would still want different tires, as I do not feel stock are safe. (Maybe I'm crazy)

I need to protect my investment, so sliders and skids are an early must. My truck was driven off the lot and I was off-road 48 hours later.

The other thing to keep in mind is that I will likely be solo on many of my mini adventures, so rescue gear is a must.

    safety/reliability > comfort/fun > looks...

This is my order of priorities.

I plan on learning as I go, so I will purchase as I go. I have reached out to some major overland companies and have been able to visit and view their vehicles, and get lots of advice. I made the thread to obtain as much information as possible, and have it documented for others.

I am sure that everything you listed is plenty for me to have fun and be safe, but I may go about it differently.

I car camped and traveled in a Prius the past 3 years and had lots of fun. I moved to the truck because my adventure plans outgrew what the vehicle was capable of doing.

You gotta pro, all you need is some camping and recovery gear and some friends to share the experience with. Good luck. Nice truck

    Thanks!!!

That was the plan. Because I am far from an expert, I wanted something I could drive off the lot and have lots of confidence in. I didn't want to play with suspension or get into too much.

I totally understand going lone wolf. But everytime you go solo it is a risk. I've been doing it all my life, but it WILL catch up with you.

I rolled my ATV about a week ago. I got bruised and cracked a rib. But it could have been a lot worse. When you have someone with you, there is safety in numbers. And it could be the difference in survival. Everyone makes mistakes.

    A few being keyword.

The tire world is a lot bigger with a 17" wheel.

I'm patiently waiting on parts that have been ordered for months. Hope your build thread goes well, I'm still figuring out all of mine too. It took a long time just to get the rig. My best advice is watch for deals (free shipping) or group buys to spread the cash further. And hope you're loving the pro suspension as much as I am. I haven't installed anything yet, that's this weekend, then I'll start a build thread. Best of luck.

So far I've ordered and am waiting on . . .
    Adventure Trailers Habitat
    Pelfreybilt Rock Sliders

    I've received . . .
    Pelfreybilt Pro Mid Skid
Pop and Lock Rear tailgate Lock
    Redline Tuning Hood Struts

    I plan to order . . .
    Gas Skid plate
    Rear Skid Plate
    Front Bumper and winch
    Rear Bumper with swingout
Bigger tires (Likely BFG AT KO2 265/75/17 or something similar)

didn't mean to say that you are going for the looks. Sorry if that's what you thought.

Just saying: don't get caught up in the need to buy.

I like the current suspension and how it rides. I couldn't think of adding too much to load down the truck and having to get heavier springs for the 20 or so days I have the truck weighed down. But I did think about an RTT. I wanted to see how the truck might handle so I put 6 bags of sand in the bed and drove it around. Felt pretty good handling on road, dirt and washboard trails. I did not like how it did on some of the more rocky terrain, so I think RTT is off the books for me.

think you are going about it the right way: shop as you see the need. We've amassed about $3000 in outdoor gear (I'm sure others have spent much more). but when you do it over 15 - 20 years, it doesn't hurt as much! you also don't think about how much that stuff cost until you put it all together for a 10 day trip, buying it one at a time.

The best part about it after all these years is laughing at the mis-adventure that led to us buying a particular piece of equipment or gear that we didn't think we originally needed. Sometimes you don't laugh: Like the mis-hap that resulted in us putting a shovel, towstrap, and a farm jack in our truck. that was not a fun lesson to learn. Luckily a bowsaw to cut some limbs and vines to tie them together got us out of that crappy situation. but internet did not exist at the time and you learned by trial and error if you didn't know anyone. All my cohorts at the time were fellow doctoral student egg heads so they would have been no help in giving us advice.

Recently, I took a few students and residents out for a few days; all city kids. They were surprised how much stuff we brought and used, and started talking about the stuff they wanted to get when they got back on campus. They were more stoked about going to REI to get gear. I was more worried about where my rent check was coming when I was at that point in my life but I guess things have changed. Buying gear is great. It gives us an anticipatory thrill about the things that we will use it for. So, yes, I understand why people like buying gear. It's got certain therapeutic values. When my wife goes to the mall, I go to cabela's. never buy anything but I spend hours there.

    good luck with your build.

One parting advice: looking the lifestyle: people know you spent MONEY. depending on where I go, I really don't want people thinking I have the financial means to get gear like that. That's one BIG reason I travel the way I do. In the middle of no where, sometimes gear covered under a tarp with stock looking equipment keeps you out of trouble. Buddy that has aftermakret bumpers front and rear, winch, and jerry cans, jerry can holders, RTT etc etc, just got his rig broken into while in western NC in the woods. I've been in the same area and left the truck for days backpacking and no one's messed with it. a dirty stock looking truck with the bed covered by a tarp, parked next to target tent that's over a decade old blends in nicer sometimes. no one looks under to see what I've spent on skids, etc. BUT those exterior mods speak volumes to some people passing by.
