I would ask your employer to put you on the insurance. Just explain to them that what your going thru may not be a back injury, but may be health related.
I remember having readings of "HI". Since i have been on a pump, i havent had a bs over 190 in the past year. I get nervous when they hit the 180's. Remember, normal BS are between 70-199 for us.
Remember this, if you eat nothing.at all, you still need insulin to keep your sugars in normal range. With an insulin pump you havr a basil and a bolus. Basil runs in the background....a continous "drip" every hour. Bolus is what you do for meals. This is where you count carbs.
Here are my settings just to show you how my body works as a diabetic and how a pump works
    Basal rates:12am to 4am- .70 units/hour
    5am-8am- .80
    8am-11am-.70
    11am-11pm .65 units/hour
Bolus: 10/1 for every 10 carbs i need 1 unit of insulin
As you can see, controlling your bs can be complicated, but well worth the effort. I didnt realise how BAD i felt until i felt better

The symptoms of shock will come in at lower BS levels as your average BS goes down.

When I was at 810 before I was aware I was type 1, I was showing signs of shock at around 100 after I started getting it under control.

Now I'll start feeling that I'm low if I'm around 60.

It will get better for you. Best of luck to you.

119 is good. The trick to keeping it there is to check and check often. And count your carbs

hey man i've got type 1 also. if you have keytones then make sure you drink as much water as you can. the water will filter out alot of the keytones and most likely save your kidneys. all my medicine is covered by my insurance 100% so if your ever in a desperate need of some i could send you a couple of novalog pens and lantus pens to keep yu goin. I know what its like to be high and who ever that lady was that said all that bull shit about you dieing at a certain number and shit well she's just stupid.

I know those. I also know the fear of a reading that high.

I'm always checking the Lilly site for vouchers and found this. Should have no problem getting pens if you've got a prescription.

I didn't see anything on the Lantus site though.

I've also found that exercise helps maintain the numbers.

I agree. Keep active, and exercise regularly. It is a great natural way to keep BS levels down.

With DKA, energy level is usually low, so it may be hard to get in good exercise. Just do your best, we're rooting for ya!
