2008 is braided wire and it goes up into that box. It's wound up pretty tight. I doubt it would rattle like loose change in there.

i think the noise goes away at speeds because the loose parts are being held up against the drum with centrifugal force, when going slow it's like change in a dryer.
cant wait to hear what it is.

But the drum is the only piece moving in the drum assembly. All the springs, adjusters, etc. are stationary.

I mentioned this same fact earlier in the thread , not all Tacomas have a chain , some have braided cable which wouldnt make a loose change noise . Thanks for the post ! Thought I was losing my mind lol

Oh okay. My 2015 is a chain and it makes constant noise on the trail now that the spare tire is not under there. I tied mine off so it doesn't dangle but it still jingles.

Mine makes the same noise... and it is definitely the spare tire chain. My chain hangs through the rim (yes I have a matching rim and spare 33" tire under there) and jingles like loose change. A sock and some zip ties will do the trick!

One more option is the flimsy plastic fender liners inside the rear wheel wells. It just has some of those crappy plastic clips holding them loosely in place. They rattle all the time on my truck

Didn't realize that the 2008 had a cable and not a chain... There went my theory. :anonymous:

Verdict is in! Changed the brake pads today and while I was working on the right side I noticed one of the bolts on my uca was loose, like really loose. So I tightened it up. Drove it and no noise. It was weird cause when I drove earlier I could have swore out was coming from the bed area and never checked the front. Guess the echo while driving was throwing me off. I checked the spare tire and out was just a tad loose. It wasn't the cable but it was the bell housing that the cable is attached to. Once tight the bell didn't rattle anymore. Glad I found that before I made my drive tho Phoenix for my move in 2 weeks.

I did the TSB today and they told me that Toyota corporate says they could not do the TSB with the front lifted even tho the AAL was taken out so I ran home and put the original springs and shocks back on it (I was trying to drop it off 3 hours early so I had just enough time)
Also my change rattling was the rear drums whoever did them last (I just bought the truck) decided putting them back together correctly was optional

I had the same noise. I checked for loose bolts or the storage. It was the spare tire chains. I just put some duct and noise stopped. It's the mud terrain make car vibratr and chain rattles

Mine ended up being part of my e-brake coming apart, rebuilt rear brakes and gone and my e-brake started working
