Exactly. It's like Harleys... when it leaks oil that's a good thing because at least you know there is still some in there.

Just out of interest, noting you said it's not on the recall, do you plan to take it in?

My 2017 Limited is on the recall list. It was delivered early January and I only have about 2600 miles. I took these pictures this morning, but they don't really look like the 'leaking" ones that others have posted. I checked the nuts and they all seemed tight... do you guys think this is really leaking?

I would say no but it's hard to say 100% without being under the truck.

Is there any oily feel? Maybe decrease/wash the area - wait a few 1000 miles - then recheck

if its Diff fluid it has a stinky smell to it, I would take it in just to have it documented and checked out

An interesting point: I broke my rear axle in very carefully, and I changed my diff fluid at 1000 miles with Toyota's expensive fluid. I never had a leak. My rear end howls between 40-55 mph on light acceleration or deceleration. Upon some drivetrain mathematics, and some fft audio analysis, it was found that The frequency of the howl is the exact frequency of the ring and pinion tooth mesh frequency. From a mechanical standpoint, the ring and pinion backlash is 100% independent from the diff third member to axle housing studs the recall is addressing. FYI: I have about 6500 miles on my TRDOR bone stock 8.75" rear with locker. No modification was made to my truck except floor mats and mud flaps.

Thanks for the tips. I went back out and checked again. I don't notice any unusual or stinky odors, or any oily feel. I cleaned up around the immediate area so it's all nice and shiny. I'll check it weekly or so, and wait until the mad rush is over before bringing it in. :fingerscrossed:

I'm guessing your Toyota Service Advisor is going to say that's what caused it. Mud flap acoustics causing a synchromatic quantum plasma field resonance that travels down your frame into the differential. :D
