Uniden 520XL with a Li'l Wil antenna - Mounted CB where the ashtray went, mic where the clock would go. I just pull the antenna out the back slider window when I need it. Suits my needs for trail comm. Just don't leave the antenna out 24/7 for long durations, the magnet will start to rust and transfer that rust to the truck...

I like that MIC, I just might get it? It gets REALLY GOOD reviews as well!!! Thank you :fistbump:

You put everything in the same spots I did. I don't smoke so it was a perfect spot to put the Cobra 19 Ultra III. I had to slightly modify the center bezel (i.e. on the inside back end) to "push back" the CB a bit further and mount it, but it all worked out very well. If I remember correctly, I can put the ashtray back in its place if there was ever a need to.

Btw, LOL, I was just in O'side about 3wks ago... my "old stomping grounds"!!!:fistbump:

It's a noise canceling MIC and it gets really good reviews. It's not a necessity, but a good to have "mod"!!! Anyways, I can't buy one right now as you know.

    I can't as well.
But noise cancel, as in no distortion? Or not picking up say like the radio?

When you TX, it "blocks out" the background noise and the overall sound quality on the receiving end is much clearer. So, in that sense, you yourself don't see any "difference". So, not a necessity, but can be a good decent mod in that sense.

Standard mics that come with radios are crap. Replacing it is an easy up grade to do to any radio. Aftermarket high end mics are better quality and most of the time have noise canceling and amplification. Just make sure the impedance is correct for whatever cb you are using.

Has anyone used a 2 foot long firestik? Is the range "acceptable"? Like for trail use and occasional trucker BS during traffic jams. I just moved into a place with a garage and the 3 footer is too long.

I have a 2ft on mine because of the car port. I got tired of taking down the 4ft (I use it on the trails). It's "acceptable" for sure as I have also used it on trails and BS, as well, with the truckers. I doubt you will get the same amount of TX range compared to a longer antenna, even if it was tuned?!

Also, snowboard does have a point though, placement is also key to getting good TX range and tuning.

But yeah, definitely good for trail use for sure just as long as your group is within reasonable distance.

Same place as the 3 footer, corner of toolbox on an extra long 'mirror mount' and heavy duty spring

You SHOULD be fine in that spot. BUT, as your antenna gets smaller and smaller and closer to a "structure", your SWR starts going to crap!!! I'm barely below a 3, which is really NOT considered "GOOD", but I am SOME WHAT within reason still. I have the 2ft for "around town" and what not and then when I'm out on a trail, I'll take the 2ft off and use my 4ft Francis CB whip.

The pic shows where my CB antenna is located and you can see why my SWR is pretty bad because most of the antenna is "near a structure". You ideally want ALL or at least just over half of your CB antenna "above a structure". If/when I put up my 4ft, the SWR is around 1.5-1.7, which is pretty decent. I would like it to be 1.5 and below, but I'm pretty content with around 1.6 for sure.
    HAM_2band_mount_pic3.jpg

Here, you can clearly see how much more of the antenna is ABOVE the cab!!! I just recently bought a 4ft tunable in hoping that I CAN get my SWR lower, which will help with TX efficiency. The Francis antenna is really NOT tunable, but I like it because it is fairly light weight!!!

your not going to have a very good swr reading. Don’t expect great distances because your cab is "blocking it”. Not a very good projection plane for the radio waves...

Ever thought about getting a foldable mount in that same position? then just fold it down when your going into your car port?

Yeah I know that will inevitably be an issue, however it's a matter of having long range or fitting in the garage.
Hmm I didn't know such a thing existed
