MY CURRENT RECOMMENDATION: Metaltech4x4 and the original maker no longer sell the passenger side OCS bypass (this post edited 20 August 2020). There is currently no way to make the passenger airbag function appropriately without that module, unless you j-rig the weight sensors with clamps or emulating the stock setup. It is NOT a simple resistor type bypass like an airbag is. You can still run a driver FRS seat, just have to keep the passenger side stock or proceed at your own risk.

I’m sorry but I also will no longer be responding to PMs regarding the seat swap. My truck has long been sold.

Goal: My purpose with this mod is to remain OEM with a racing style seat, and keep all SRS system intact since this is my DD, and 09+ Tacomas have seat side airbags.

    0AF47BB3-D1AC-40E9-B45C-00280A2613E8.jpg

    Impressions:
    - FRS driver seat has manual height adjustability.
    - Note: passenger seat does not.
    - FRS seats offer more aggressive side bolsters more in line with the racing seat style so to me they feel more supportive.
    - I went on a ~9 hr roadtrip to and from my destination, and this seat by and large is way more comfortable to me than the OEM Tacoma seat. My back and ass have thanked me kindly thus far. Everyone's seat preference is different though so YMMV.

I'll be cleaning this thread up and posting a general "how to" of the steps I took.

    Mocked up:
    IMG_2138.jpg

Wire loom from Tacoma driver seat transferred over and OEM side airbag plugs swapped (depinned each one and swapped out).

    Driver side Mod complete:

    No airbag lights!

    IMG_2143.jpg

The stock plastic covers for the stock seat rear mounts even work very well for OEM look!

    IMG_2146.jpg

    Finished, both seats in
    C678DEF2-9A41-424F-9193-92C23B38BF50.jpg

OCS Bypass wired up to AOB switch after necessary internal modification (see page 3). Switch is ON in pic, and you can see Airbag indicator is ON. Everything works!

eBay. I actually only went ahead and bought one thinking this whole idea could crash and burn. So if driver side is a go then ill do passenger side. Passenger side gets a little trickier.

Cool idea. Are you just looking for more lateral support?

That is awesome! I have been trying to see if i can find some nice leather seats from a luxury toyota car/suv to put in my truck. I feel like i would end up doing the same thing you are.

Excited to see the end results!

Good because these Tacoma seats sucks so bad; It's the only complaint I have about my truck is the poor design of the front and rear seats, horribly uncomfortable.

Yeah that, and overall more comfortable seat, and the fact they have a racing seat profile, and black.

The cool thing is these have a couple really nice aftermarket leather-type cover options that cost just about the same as Wet Okoles or clazzios. One made by SARD racing and another one I forget the name of. But they look way nicer.

I would've had aftermarket seats in my truck a long time ago but with all the seat airbags and sensors nowadays I definitely wanted to find something that would work like stock with no issues.

Oh and they have a manual height adjuster. It doesn't adjust but maybe an inch or 2 up and down but it's something.

I think at full height they sit just slightly higher than stock seats and then all the way down they do get pretty low.

I own both of Tacoma and an FRS and I can honestly tell you that I would never put an FRS seat into a Tacoma. There are far better aftermarket options available that would bolt right in.

    Just my $.02

Best of luck with the mod.

Look up @Torspd build. I don't remember the brand but they make several different styles with fit-kits for various applications.
Obviously cost is a factor but there's a company out there that's got it figured all out.

If I had a 2008 or previous that didn't have seat airbags I'd be all with ya going with some high quality aftermarket seats but my problem is the SRS system and myself not wanting to bypass it or tear stuff out of my seats.

FRS seats were also on the lower end of the price spectrum:/

Either way if down the road the seat totally sucks I'll just get rid of it and go back to stock. One can dream

I hit a snag today. FRS seat rail has some stupid ass set of fins sitting toward the rear of the slider. Basically won't allow me to bolt the seat rail to the new seat bracket. Not enough clearance over the bolt head

I'm a man of only crude tools so I'll either need to painstakingly grind it off by hand or get a grinder. I don't have a bastard file on hand and the metal fins are too thick to cut with snips.

Didn't think about the airbag thing. I've got an 07 so that never comes to mind with me.
