Had my pro for 2 months now, this is second incident of thief. Never thought the freakin' spare was a hot commodity. aside from pointless anger, i did some research to see if there was another alternative to replacing the oems. I've never had to use a spare before so i don't want to waste money on chance they will get stolen again. Can any 6 lug steel wheel from a different car fit in there? any suggestions would help. Thanks.IMG_9562.jpg

Grab a spare lock from Amazon. Like $35?

Do you think it was stolen at the same time the tailgate was stolen, or was it a separate incident?

Steal 4 of em from new trucks and an older truck has a bolt on set of brand new tires. They'll get what's coming to them though.

A 16" Toyota spare rim is like 40-50$ and you can throw any tire from kijiji that holds air.

You can also just buy a used spare from another Taco/T4R owner who has mounted a full size spare on the tail gate. 16" or 17" doesnt matter.

    Sorry for your luck!

    Not a bad theory.

OP: If you go with an aftermarket wheel you need to confirm that it has the right back spacing. Otherwise you might have clearance issues. I am not familiar with what the ideal backspacing is for these newer trucks, you might have to search the forums.

If were you, I would start looking for another tacoma wheel on craigslist. heck, you might even find the one they stole from you LOL. Or maybe look for one at a junk yard. And...when you get another spare wheel/tire...lock that thing! I used to have one of those bicycle steel cables with the combination lock at the end; just wrapped it around the wheel and the cross member. I got the fat steel cable version not the the skinny one they sell at wal mart.

yep, that was me with the tailgate stolen. It was a separate incident. I've parked in my garage ever since then. It was while i was at work. Good idea bishop84 with just a plain rim and used tires. I think i'll go that route. Thanks for the tip
