Hello I need some input I'm looking at purchasing a 2005 Tacoma dbl cab extended bed. I have a concern at that the vibration problem I've been reading about. I have a first gen. Dbl cab and I would hate to get rid of it for something that will give me a full body massage. My question to those that have a 2005 is it a problem that you have had? What did you do to get rid of the problem completely? Are there any other things I need to be concerned about other than this and the frame issues? Thanks for all input.

What's your reason for wanting to get into a 2nd gen? If you have a 1st gen double cab, then yours has to be a 02-04, right? Why are you only looking to get an '05? You'd only be gaining a few years of "newness", right? Your 1st gen double cab holds some value. I'd say if you're gonna make the jump, find a '12 or newer to make it worth it for you.
I bought my '09 used in 2013 and if I could do it over again I would have bought new rather than used.

05 had weak head gaskets, upgraded in 06 or 07 I think

I also have a lifted 2005 dcsb. The only vibrations I had were from the diff bearing. I did the bushing swap and haven't had an issue since.

I think the guy said he had to get the diff bearings done but he says it hasn't had any vibration problems. I would love to upgrade to the 09 but this guy has the 05 at such a good deal. Plus my 1 gen which has been nothing but the best make me kind of hesitant to part with it but I fugure if I'm going to put a good amount of work in it to last another 100,000 I might be better off to purchase this one. Ill look into the head gasket issue also thanks.

Besides what was already mentioned, there was/is a problem with vibration when starting out at low speeds under heavy throttle. Mine used to do that, got better when a camper shell was added (weight/ride height change). It's more common when lifting the truck, but mine did it stock. I've recently noticed it's no longer there since the rear springs were replaced under recall. Not sure if it's just in the sweet spot now as far as driveline angles, or if it was a weak spring/axle wrap type deal. I wouldn't be concerned about it if the truck is stock, it seems to be mostly a lifted truck problem.

Yeah I'm thinking it might be a balancing act to get it to that sweet spot.
