Custom has a custom trigger that is drilled, red and wider, a better set of sights and the slide rod is aluminum, with a stronger spring. Much easier to shoot, IMHO, especially with hotter .380 ammo.

I'm a little late to the party and shenanigans. My EDC is a HK VP9 with an aliengear IWB holster. I'm of good enough size and the clothes I wear conceal it very well with minimal printing. I've been considering a P30SK and have found a few with a decent price tag. Yes, I'm a HK fanboy.

For those with aliengear holsters, put a little loctite blue on the threads of the screws once you get it set how you like it and you won't have to worry about them backing out on you.

For the longest, I thought the only thing to carry was a G19 in an IWB setup. And while it still is a great all around choice, my thinking has changed over the years. For one, as someone mentioned, you have to carry ALL THE TIME. IWB carry has never been comfortable for me (bigger guy, love handles) and I was bad about running in stores, down the road, etc. without my gun.

Now, I don't know the laws in your state but here in Ga, I can open carry. I don't, but it means printing isn't a big deal. Once I started carrying OWB, I loved it. I also learned that I could carry a big gun without any extra issue (except weight). So now my go-to is a fullsize 1911. I like have 9 rounds of 45acp in a package I'm comfortable and very accurate with. I just let my t-shirt fall over it and although it prints some, I've been amazed at the number of people who have no idea it's there till I tell them. People just aren't looking.

Now, when it's super hot or for quick trips, I still like a pocket gun. Smith 642 or Ruger LCR in a Nemesis holster disappears and weigh next to nothing. Also, a revolver's inherent reliability trumps a pocket auto every time.

Concealed carry? a lot of things to consider... Glock 19 in proper holster ( appendix carry ) which would be my choice, and lots lots of ammunition. practice, training, situational awareness, and so on should be part of your routine if you are planning to carry. a lot of things to consider, but i think the most important aspect of carrying a weapon is to have a mindset of actually using it as intended., not to scare somebody, but be ready to use it to defend yourself and your loved one. i know people that carry weapons for show or to be " cool" or think that the gun gives them the advantage... wrong... weapon is a tool and knowing how, where, and when to use it is an advantage. just thought i would share my opinion.

While I agree, I've always felt the HP had too much European influence whereas the 1911 exudes America.

You know, I've heard that if you put a grinder on a 1911, the sparks are red, white, and blue. Can anyone confirm this?

Yer more than welcome to test that theory on your own gun, mess with mine in that fashion it may result in your having to type with a stump.

I dunno about a grinder, but when you weld on one that's how it sparks.

I've had my CC permit for a while now and have never carried. I originally got it and more interested in handguns after being approached and sniffed out by a big black bear on a hunting trip! Anyways, I'm a pretty small dude and just picked up the M&P Shield in .45 with kydex IWB holster. This is my first concealable compact gun. This thread has been a good read.

If you ever have to use it, youll probably be within 5 yards of your target. I would stick with the .380. Try the Bersa Thunder .380. Also the Sig P232 is worth trying.

I got my Shield at the local shop for $350 after subtracting the $75 rebate, already sent it in! Such a deal IMO.

Glock 19 in a Theis IWB holster.

Even in 90+ degree weather, this will conceal under a light t-shirt. Worn at the 4 - 5 o'clock position, you can't go wrong. When the weather is cooler, I'll occasionally carry a commander-size 1911 in .45 acp.

Ive tried a simple google search, are there any good articles breaking down which positions (on the clock) are best for IWB carry?

I would say it all comes down to personal preference and comfort. Appendix carry is nice because it's easy to conceal and you can draw while sitting, but I find it to be less comfortable. I prefer the 4 o clock position canted forward. Also easy to conceal (unless bending over) and very comfortable with the right holster.

I'm usually at 4 o'clock as well, sometimes closer to 5 depending on the shirt I'm wearing
