I've heard some stories...I'm guessing, if I was out in it, I might have to wonder about survival.

We do, I'm amazed at the amount of rain and how fast it comes down and winds (even off shit outta the gulf). We had a couple inches and 60+mph winds this week in just a few hours...no hail tho.

Last year I actually saw asphalt ripped of some of the roads after one moved thru just north of my house. Amazing stuff really just don't wanna be in it.

PDR is an art. I've had door dings and dents taken out a number of times and a talented tech can work miracles.

Back in 06 we had a monster hail storm here in Indy on Good Friday. Did $25k worth of damage to the house (roof, siding, windows, etc). Both cars got nailed. One of the vehicles was a Jeep Liberty. They ended up cutting the roof off and replacing due to the number of dents....and also replaced the hood as I recall. If it makes more financial sense to replace a panel or do traditional bodywork because of the number of dents, your insurance company may try to dictate how it's repaired. FYI.

Sorry to hear that Mother Nature got you.

Generally these PDR guys are good if they've been in the business for awhile. Knocking out 50 hail dents on a vehicle is standard operating procedure. We had several PDR crews come to town after a hail storm last summer. They stayed in town for like 6 months cause there were so many cars damaged. If insurance covers it, get 'er done. If it's a newer vehicle, it's worth it for sure.

I bought a dodge Magnum RT years back that was a Chrysler reps vehicle that got hit badly with hail. The PDR was great. Could not tell the difference on the steel. The aluminum hood had faint shadows but only to me because I knew where to look. Find a good established shop. They can work magic

Being in the collision business and living in Dallas where we just got hit with a couple of storms, PDR is the way to go if they can PDR it you're way better off, don't worry if the dent is too large they will just do conventional repair.

Is there a maximum number of dings per panel where they decide to go conventional or panel replace? Roof on the wifes car has 100 dents

PDR will take care of it. Make sure you find a guy with years and years of experience, as others have mentioned there's definitely an art too it. Had it done on my Audi A7 on the crease on a quarter panels. Took the man hours but it was on a tough spot. Most shops wouldn't touch it. He said he had repaired nice cars nearly totaled with hail damage

My wife's Subaru Outback got nailed last year by hail. Hundreds of little divots. I was skeptical about PDR, but man o man it came out perfect.

Now, just the other day a baseball landed on the rooof of my truck about an inch away from the windshield. Only one small dent. Has anyone tried to repair something like this with a heat gun and canned air?

No it all depends on the size of the dents, they're typically categorized as dime, nickel, quarter, and half dollar. There's also Oversize dents. If her roof has 100 you're better off with PDR unless they're huge dents. They could also do what's called a push to paint like lets say her roof has a lot of very small dings which is PDR but then a few large ones they cant then they will PDR the large ones the best they can and than conventional repair will be done to those. or some people will just conventional the large ones. I would always file a claim for hail if its more than your deductible too most people don't understand you don't benefit at all from not filing in a hail storm because its a catastrophe claim meaning your rates wont go up. But for me living in Dallas and with this area being hit with hail storms 2 years in a row my rates will go up even though I didn't get hit in either of them, basically the whole regions rates will go up not just people hit with hail

Hundreds of hail dents on my Camry Midnight black. All gone looked at it under the mechanics lights was perfect. Maybe this is like an art and only as good as the artist. If in the Pittsburgh area I can give you the number.
