As the title states, I am aware that this is probably the most hated question on any forum. Although I am new, brand spanking new, here, I am not new on some other car/truck forums. I went to my "home" board - ih8mud (I have a 97 LC that is a work in progress and has been for years) and the few guys on the Tacoma forum suggested to come here.
I need and want a truck. I am limiting myself budget wise. It will become my daily driver, river, dog, truck and take the place of my 02 Subaru Outback wagon. I am currently looking closely at 2 possibilities.
1 - 2006 DCSB 4wd TRD Offroad with a manual (I have no problem with this at all) transmission. It is owned by a friend who I know has meticulously maintained it. She has towed her Corvette to races with it, but I do know that she has a private mechanic address all of its needs. It has 270k on the clock. Pros- private sale (taxes) and I know the complete history. Southern truck; spent it's whole life in Tx then East Tennessee. Cons - THE MILES. I can get it for $10k
2 - 2008 DCLB 4wd Sport package auto. I found it on a car lot today while out doing errands. 190k on the clock. Carfax shows one owner who had the oil changed/brakes done at the dealer. It shows no accidents and assures the basics have been covered in its life. Biggest thing that was done to it was brakes - pads, rotors resurfaced. It has had the rear leaf springs replaced (Carfax showing 2 times 5k apart) under recall. There is some rust - probably rate it "normal" for a truck that is used and not garage kept. Everything seems to be stock. Needs a muffler. currently it's filthy and I will have to spend a few hundred to get it detailed. The alloy wheels are in terrible shape, but they have put new tires on it. I negotiated a $13k out the door price based on its dirtiness. Has some dings and dents - nothing huge - but they are there.
Which one is my best buy?
Thank you for helping me out on this one. I hate that my first post is like this, but I hope that when I get my Tacoma I can help out some too.
    Best,
    Gaper - katie

    Same as everybody else...
I'd pick the first one based on your first hand knowledge of its maintenance. As long as the frame is solid and the truck was taken care of, which you say it has, I'd go with that one. The mileage wouldn't be an issue, check the forums and you'll see Tacomas that are running strong with more mileage.Just my best guess opinion and welcome to the TW!

Of the two I would get the first one due to knowing its history.
