Tacoma manual states it can be done "at less than 62 mph". You should be driving on a straight road at the time if it's a dry surface.

Another way to check is to go under the truck and see if the axle moves at the diff. This is what mine looks like.

Yup, I also have the rumble strip feeling that everyone else does, so I did that check to make sure that's what it was.

That's a great analogy...and that's what I have...a ruble strip feeling at speeds above 60mph...Crap, the wife hates it when I spend money to fix my truck...oh well she'll get over it.

Hah, the wife was accepting that this needed to be done. Everything else has taken a bit of nagging/wearing her down to let me do mods.

    Workin' on it....
That amount of slop is normal (in that it is a shitty design from the beginning) in a stock tacoma. I don't have vibes but mine moves like that and I think the general consensus is they are all like that from factory. The problem with the needle bearing is that once you lift your truck, the vibes become apparent due to the slop in the needle bearing. I fully anticipate doing the needle bearing once I swap out the suspension.

Every time the FedEx truck or UPS truck drives by the house she gives me a real bad look, with evil eyes and horns that shoot out her head. when they ring the door bell, she answers the door and what the F*** now...the look on the drivers face is priceless...

Well with the lift I have installed, I figured it needs to be done, and that amount of play is no good, even if it is within limits according to Toyota.

I agree. For people that never lift their truck though, they will likely drive it for years and years and never be any the wiser without the vibe issues lifting brings.:cheers:

I just checked the front axel movement this morning on my truck and it moves just as much as yours does in the video. Did you check for movement after you did the repair...did it still move as much as before.

I haven't done he bushing just yet, still have to get the crush washers and fluid to drain and fill the front diff after doing the bushing. The dealer closed before I could get there yesterday.

AHA...if you wouldn't mind can you keep me posted on how you make out. I guess I will be doing this very soon, I need my truck for this seasons camping trips and I would rather not pull my camper 1000's of miles with the truck the way it is. I think I will go ahead and order the bearing tonight.

Well thanks to this thread, I just ordered the bushing plus a new seal.

I had previously thought I would have to completely pull the CV from the truck-including the hub. That would be annoying since I did wheel bearings about 6 months ago. Good to see I won't have to. Already have the bearing/seal driver and will borrow a blind hole puller from autozone to remove the old bearing.

Sure hope the CV shaft comes out of the diff easily.:fingerscrossed:
