Depends on the dealer, my mine ordered the LCA plugs first then we scheduled an appointment when they came in for install.

A quick preliminary check on the Toyota Owners site shows: Safety Recall: No safety recalls reported. Where do I find the build date range for this recall? Saw a post somewhere but can't seem to find it now.

Hi. I think Toyota is going to recall. I don't think they did yet. Thus, the Toyota Owners site doesn't show the recall yet. Correct me if I am wrong.

Its only been a couple of days. By June they'll probably expand the recall to include the OR. They were constantly revising trucks included in the frame recall. I expect all will be included for the inspection at least.

Remember the recall is for the inspection of diff for leaks and loose hardware, if you're on the list but not leaking you'll likely pass the inspection so don't get worried about it. If your truck is leaking and not on the list, get it fixed due to warranty work.

Curious though how they're going to respond to lifted ORs.

Recall said they anticipate 1% of all trucks inspected to have leaks. People on the list without leaks are part of the 99%.

ORs can get fixed as warranty work on a case by case until they get added to the recall.

How is this hard to understand?

Agreed. Their announcement, I am sure, was very strategic. There is probably a group of VINs on the recall that propose a high liability (corporate stuff not logical to us) to Toyota Legal. It's about protecting the corporation and not, as we fantasize, about fixing our trucks. Not that Toyota is devious to their customers, but rather their main purpose is to protect the stakeholders; like any other massive conglomerate.

What is hard to understand is that so many people never look under their truck. You don't need to be a mechanic to do an occasional visual inspection and notice if stuff is leaking, loose, broken off, etc.

Pretty sure the diff wasn't Hecho in Mexico just bolted on to the frame there. But not torquing bolts properly is a pretty rediculous QC failure.

They may have properly torqued the bolts. The problem may be the elasticity of the bolt being poor. I would bet dollars to donuts that the bolts are complete garbage and that their yield is way out of whack.

Agreed, this is probably the issue otherwise they wouldn't be changing out the studs along with the gaskets.

As I mentioned earlier.....both plants use the same suppliers. This is a supplier issue....not an assembly problem with the actual Toyota plants.

Thanks for the correction sir! 21MM must have been leaf spring nuts or something else I was working on that time I changed the diff fluids.

100% on this. Probably got cheap pot metal Chinese bolts in there. This is a huge problem in the whole manufacturing industry of inferior Chinese metals making it in to critical structural parts. If this simply was a torque issue, there probably would have been an in house memo to re-torque all trucks that came in for 5000 mile service. I can't remember where I saw this, but there was a good article on how China ships a lot of metal into Mexico, that ends up in products it isn't supposed to.

Also I wonder if some of the rear ends actually weren't starved of oil, but came apart because of the cheap bolts.

Interesting that the recall document indicates Hold vehicle for final remedy (TBD) and all dealers need to notify Toyota of the leaking rear ends to help get an idea of parts to make available.

It would be good to track this with owners who take the truck in and see if they had to leave it, or the dealer had the parts Gasket, and Bolts.
