    I have an Estimates for Services sheet from a local shop (a cheaper second opinion after a first visit to another spot). The first business gave me this summary:

    "Customer has been informed about the following DTC in system is P0304: Cylinder #4 misfire. Spark plugs are O.E.M, as are ignition coils. #4 coil is weak. It is next to impossible to test injectors on this system due to intake interference. We suggest spark plug & #4 ignition coil replacement with an aggressive decarbonization of engine & injector cleaning as well."

    The second shop gave me these estimated costs:

    Spark Plug (6) = $52.68 ; Ignition Coil (1) = $88.95
    BG 44-K (1) = 20.25 ; BG Induction kit (1) = 47.19
    Labor (Spark Plugs & Fuel Injection Service) = $170.15

    Doing a little looking around and talking to others, I'm fairly sure I can take care of the spark plugs (so I purchased them online), and I think I can handle the ignition coil stuff as well. My question(s) to you more experienced Tacoma owners are these:

    1) Is switching out an ignition coil as simple as this video shows? (I know it's a Tundra):

    2) I've found a few different sets where I could get all six for $85-$100, would it be advantageous to purchase and switch out all six rather than just one? And, in the long run will it be a big deal that I purchase a cheaper (say, around $20) ignition coil rather than the $88.95 coil the shop quoted me?

    3) I haven't looked into the BG stuff yet, other than to see that I could purchase the BG 44-K online.

    So, all those questions to say - if I get a vibe from you all that it's as relatively easy as the youtube video above, and okay to purchase cheaper ignition coils, then I'm going to move forward with it.

    Plugs and coils are easy to do. The BG 44K probably won't help much. These engines are clean runners and I'm not sure that stuff really does anything anyway.

    Just do the plugs and replace the one coil pack with a Toyota coil. I wouldn't cheap out on this.

    Proper diagnosis would be swapping coils and verifying if the misfire changes cylinders.

    I would use factory plugs and spend the money on a factory coil. Replacing all of them wouldn't make sense.

    I would do it yourself also, relatively easy job and will make you more familiar/comfortable with working on your truck. BG products are excellent and I use them in my truck but not a necessity for this repair.
    Quick edit the bg induction requires a machine to use.
