    Drove up to Big Bear for the day. Intended on fishing but water was a bit low where I wanted to shore fish, so I convinced the wife and son to take the Taco up a trail. Saw that Polique was an easy trail so we gave it a go. Saw a couple trucks and jeeps along the way. Everyone was friendly and waving us by. Got to this spot and took some pictures.

    We decided to head down to Arrowhead and grab a bite to eat for lunch. As we passed Greenvalley Lake, I caught a glimpse of a trail (Crab Flats) as I drove by. Saw a big ol' truck airing up. So I told the wife that maybe we should check it out. Lol. She gave the thumbs up and we head in. The main trails were nice, but if you went off on one of the unmaintained trails, things got hairy pretty quick. I crossed a small pond, run up some sandy spots, and had to navigate some rocky areas. 2 hours into the trail, I saw a Dad and his girls in Jeep heading up towards me. We had a quick conversation and he said he just got pulled out by someone down where I was headed. I looked at my wife and said maybe our adventure should end here. :) My boy said, just keep going Dad! I told him we'd be back another time, but with a couple more rigs with us incase we needed to get pulled out. I read somewhere that it's ok to turn around if you get uncomfortable so that's what we did. We ended on a good note and can't wait to hit the trails again. Next time, we'll be a bit more prepared. Time to buy some recovery gear.

    All in all, pretty easy trails for a newbie like me. First truck, and first 4x4. Have lots to learn from you good folks here. Happy trails!

    Yea, hoping to get to know some folks on here. This was kinda the spur of the moment thing. Had no intentions of going wheelin' today, but I'm sure glad I did. Most fun I've had in a while. Got to see stuff I never would have seen if I didn't have the Taco.

    Yup, that's what's on the list. Btw, I was looking online and saw some 3x30 Smittybuilt straps for about half the price of Arb. Is Smittybuilt no good? Also do most guys buy 20 ft or 30 ft? Same with the hitch shackle. Any differences? Can someone school me on this so I can make a decision?

    I had an ARB 30', and it was a great length. I feel a 20' would be too small. For the straps, I'd recommend buying the ARB. I say that because overall it's not that much more expensive, and they're of a higher quality, and they stretch a little more. You can get one on Amazon for about $60. Here's what I had.

    I'd also recommend airing down if you get into more slow speed technical stuff, or looser stuff. I'll help your tires to get better traction. I used this air compressor to air back up and it's a little workhorse. Takes me about 10 minutes to air up from 15 to 33 psi.

    I just use a regular old hitch pin. I don't leave it in my receiver all the time because I don't want the shackle stolen or exposed to the elements.
