I bought this '98 tacoma over a year ago with 250xxx miles and I've always wheeled it pretty hard. It has a 1" block in the rear with gas-adjust shocks front and rear with 32" tires. Thats about all I know about its suspension. After my ego became bigger than my lift this past trip, I snapped the top leaf spring of my already sagged leafs, and then somewhere between there and home I also broke my shock off its mount. Aside from sharing my misfortune, I wanted to see how long I could make my 5 minute daily commute as well as how much lift I have from stock considering the sagged leafs.

Damn, that looks sick. Are you asking if you should drive your 5 min daily commute like that? I'm hoping not...

Considering I drove an hour at 55 mph (white knuckled) , she might still be my daily until parts arrive

I understand, sorry to hear about that. I would keep it 55 and under if you do, just my opinion. But good luck, when do parts come in?

I got back from my trip 6 hours ago, probably going to order parts tommorow or day after, still have a ton of research to do. Probably going to get dakars and 5100 for the rear with ome coilovers if the boss allows it. If not I might pick up some OEM leafs with 5100's

Ive done this on 2 separate occasions. first occasion I broke the 3rd leaf. Drove it like that for a couple months as my DD while I researched what to do. just bought 1 leaf from dorman on rock auto. didn't notice a difference. didn't haul anything between breaking the spring and replacing it. no issues otherwise.

I just started 4 wheeling bee canyon near hemet when i broke my shock. heard the pop so I stopped and found the issue. removed it, finished the bee canyon run, and drove it like that as my DD for about 3 months while I found a longer replacement. the broken shock was only noticeable when hitting potholes. the truck would "bounce" rapidly for about 3 seconds before calming down. never drove the truck fast enough to where the bounce would affect my driving. so no issues otherwise there.

    Remove the shock !!

The way my luck goes it would be bouncing around and break the brake line

It is also possible for the broken spring piece to move enough and cut the tire

if you want to have a "lift" go with Dakars and get rid of the spacer. Could also do General Springs (www.generalspringkc.com) and AAL.

Get longer Bilstein or OME shocks and the extended brake line (if not already). 880/881 should be fine for the front with the Bilstein.
