Hey everyone! I am in the process of getting a 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad and I need to get a roof rack. Ill have a Leer 100XR topper and I will be putting the rack on top of that. I am a whitewater kayaker so I need the thule crossbars and the longer they are the more kayaks I can haul. My question is, are the 78" bars overkill? What size crossbars do you guys use? Thanks!

78" is pretty wide. I had 52" on my Taco. They are on my 4Runner now.

How many yaks are you hauling?

Normally 4 boats, I'm thinking the 65" might be the better option. thanks for the response!

I have 54" Rhino Rack bars on my roof.

I haven't , but I would feel comfortable, putting 4 boats across with a Yakima Big Stack or 2 Yakima Jaylows.

Unless you are pulling a camper or something else, I'd rather trailer that many yaks.

Which foot packs do you have that fit the Leer? I was under the assumption that Leers only fit Thule? Maybe that's just for the 100XR...

Yes I pull a camper which is why I went with the Rhino Rack setup, it has the highest load rating of 220lb which is within spec of 4 typical 10ft recreational yaks. The 2 I have currently are 54lb and 45lb each.

The Yakima Bigstack is designed for 4 across loading.

P.s. i peiced together my rack from ors direct and saved about 50% from what a dealer cost to install. Tracks are indeed universal

QUOTE="IronPeak, post: 15039236, member: 180799"]Thule tracks for 6ft shell, 22$ each from the "spare parts" depts ORS direct, shorter ones are <20$

I currently have a set of yakima 65"s with rain gutter mounts, this is a dumb question but I don't know crap about toppers but would those fit the Leer 100XR?

The rain gutter feet will not work with tracks. I believe there is a part you can bolt to the topper to simulate a gutter but I don't have any experience with those.

This is my order, i didnt use the end caps and wouldn't bother with them, I bought my screws and stuff at home depot. The podium feet are for the tracks and are for the old style square bar fyi. So around 300$ with self install.

It depends upon which tower you have attaching the bars to the rain gutter. Some towers have inter-changeable "clips" which interface with the vehicle. Pictures??
