I would check junkyards for a whole rear end and I would also ask a gear shop for a quote to have a limited slip or locker installed. I am guessing a LSD unit is $250 plus labor.

    Thanks for the response

I found an axle 4;10 trd with abs for 900$ local.\ what are the advantages of and LSD?..besides being cheaper.

I may go the LSD route, will I have both wheels spinning with this setup? Will I be giving any ride quality up with this setup..

Air lockers or E-lockers are expensive. Auto lockers ie: Detroit are noisey.

LSD will usually handle most situations and are automatic on and off.

Lockers for stuck situations or rock crawling stuff. Lockers will break differentials if you use them in situations that both tires get traction. Once you are unstuck you need to turn it off.

LSD is for situations where is get tire slippage and need to keep moving. When a tire starts to spin the LSD works and sends power to the wheel that has traction. Then it shuts off when both tires are turning.

So if your truck has the locking rear option(OEM factory issue), how does it work when you engage your front differential? Would that give you drive to both rears and the front? Or is there a cutoff mechanism once you engage the front differential when the locking rear is switched on?

Ummm... the rear locker only can work when in 4WD LOW! Both back tires get equal torque and both front as well, unless one tire looses traction in which case torque goes to the other with traction... really the same happens if the front had a locker... both tires turn the same speed, traction or not. If it was an open differential in front, then the free tire would spin away and do nothing.

lockright is not as loud, or costly as a Detroit but will activate anytime you loose traction reguardless of 2H, 4H, 4L

exactly.... in mud your main wheel is not usually stuck (not turning) so the power never really gets transfered to the other tire. correct me if im wrong but i believe that is how it is.

IMO blackbolt, if you have the money then skip the LSD in the rear and just put in a locker. i had a locker in my 03 and it saved me from getting stuck in many mud pits

Ah, gotcha. I thought it could be used to lock both rears when in 2wd.

My comment was in response to 98tacoma's comment... this is a cool vid on differentials... skip to 2:20 since that first 2 mins is worthless.

You didn't say whether you had manual locking front hubs or not. If you do, put a lockrite up front.

I been checking around, I more than likely will go with a true locker, on the rear and front.

I had some shop said if i pull the axle pumpkins he will do them for 500 each.

Any issues with the true lockers?

Engage Offroad long travel front and rear with some fat tires.

    hope that's parts AND labor...

if you are pulling your own third members out and bringing them to the shop, the average labor seems to be around $300 to $350 per differential plus parts... if they are charging you $500 for labor per differential plus parts, i would shop around a little more...

also, surf the 4x4 wheeling forums and see where folks are getting their third members worked on...
