Now on the instructions I have it's telling me to tap at the push button itself. Is this easier to do at the harness you're pointing to? Also, what pin number is the wire you're tapping? Thanks.

Its very easy to tap into it at the connection he was showing. The wire is the beige/tan in between the white and black about in the middle of the bunch

little correction: you are right on 1&2 , however if you force the remote running car to shut down by clicking lock button on remote 3 times or your 20min running time expires--- the car will lock itself and you can only unlock it with the fob(not the handle)

Guys I want to make something clear about AUTO-LIGHTS.

The 2 wires from the DBALL2 that you splice for the auto lights are ment to do one thing only. They make sure that if your car's light switch is in AUTO the headlights turn off after the remote start session is over(either time expires, door gets open, or u click 3 times the lock button on remote to shut it off). if your light switch is on anything else but AUTO, the car has fail safe feature to shut light off only when started normal (not remote start).
If you leave the switch on DRL or ON and remotely start the car if the 20 min running time expires and you don't go by the car it will be locked but the lights will be on(because the vehicle is waiting on you to open the door so it can trigger the fail safe LIGHTS OFF feature).

The guys with no auto lights---the same thing with the exeption that you don't have AUTO option on the switch. fail safe will trigger and do the job of shutting everything for you only if you start car normal(not remote start)YOU DONT HAVE TO SPLICE THE 2 WIRES

Interesting, hadn't noticed that. Guess the truck still thinks it's unlocked after the remote start turns off so the strip inside the handle doesn't work but you can hit the lock tab on the top of the door handle and then it'll unlock as normal using the strip. Wonder if changing the Smart OEM Alarm Control Option would do anything.

I've try already. The thing is that when started remotely the door handle fancy unlocking is active, but if time expires or you force it to shut down the last thing responsible for locking the car is the DBALL2 . so the truck things that is unlocked(but is locked by the DBALL2 for safety):))))))))

I recently installed a Remote Starter in my wife's 4Runner and went the solder route as well. The guy I bought the kit from basically cussed me out and would offer no support if I even tried to use 3M connectors!

I watched a couple of U-tube videos just to see if there were any techniques I hadn't considered then dove right in. The first one was a little messy, but they got much easier as it went along. Plus it was an opportunity to buy more tools! For the super thin wires, I just used my wire stripper to cut a notch in the wire, then used a sharp box cutter to gently scrape away a strip of insulation, I was then able to peal the rest away pretty easily without damaging the wire. Just a technique.

It's also really easy to pick up some scrap 24ga wire and practice on that at your workbench until you're confident.

I stripped the wires the same way. Already have a nice Weller soldering station that I put to use.

Hi, ordered this system and installed it. Works great! Thank You! Can you offer any more details on the rf extender. Having kind of a tough time finding any info about it on the web. I see that it exists, and most likely requires an additional antenna, and possibly needing to reprogram the DBALL2, but I can't tell if the additional antenna is compatible with the OE Smart Key, or only aftermarket remotes.

I'm wondering if the Voodoo system has the same issue I have, I believe the one I got installed is a Viper and when you remote start
the truck, soon as you open the driver door, it shuts down. I was able to unground the screw from the door sensor and that fixed that
end, but soon as you step on the brake, it shuts down. I want the truck to keep running like all the other cars I've owned. I think that's
a stupid feature on the Tacoma. Why would you want it to turn off? I live in Palm Springs, and when you remote start the truck, you want
it to keep running when it's over 100 degrees outside. Plus I think it puts more wear and tear on the starter to keep restarting it. Anyone
    know how to bypass this?

Behavior is going to be the same. No remote start on PTS Tacomas keeps the truck running. Toyota doesn't allow for it and nobody's cracked their setup to get around it.

FYI the DEI DBALL2 used by KB Voodoo and my DIY is likely the same component in your Viper system. DEI owns Viper and various other brands as well.

As for additional starter wear, ask yourself two questions: How often have you replaced starters in the past? Have you been concerned with starter wear when you make multiple stops while running errands or moving from the gas pumps to a parking spot to go inside or any of the myriad other ways we perform extra/unnecessary starts? Yes it's extra wear. Most folks have never thought about it before getting a remote starter.

I think that is normal, I know mine blink, but not sure how many times. Never paid attention honestly.

I also noticed that when mine shuts off or if I shut it off via phone or remote, the doors don't unlock when I grab the handle so I have to use the fob

Five flashes is the code for "Brake Shutdown". Are you sure it isn't four flashes which is "Transmitter Shutdown"?

    Both are normal.
