Ive been doing a bunch of research but most of the write ups are for later model first gens. I have a 98, which has 1156 bulbs instead of 3156 bulbs like the later 01+ tacos. So my question is, what kind of sockets can i get that will fit in the factory housings and take either an 1157 or 3157 switchback led?

    thanks
    Keith

thanks for the info, i read all the links on how to wire and what to possible trouble shoot should i have issues. i searched DEPO clear turn signals online and found them with an 1156 bulbs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEPO-USA-98...ash=item3f79f57d74:g:bxwAAOSwxH1T9Szf&vxp=mtr

im just wondering if they come with sockets like yours did. may i ask where you ordered yours?

Amazon. but the socket will determine what you can put in. you may have to switch the 1156 to an 1157 by methods in the other posts.

being I have an '04 the 3157 is technically a two function light. so my connector and socket were ready to go. but the 1156 is single only so you'll more than likely have to re-wire it and use an 1157 socket to put into the housings

I did exactly what you are trying to do. I got 1157 sockets (https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/empty-bases-sockets/ba15-bayonet-base-sockets-wired/1147/) and put them in my turn signal housings. I had to shave down the opening in the housing to get the 1157 socket to fit, but it was minor. Then I tapped the new 3rd wire into the parking light circuit above the wheel well. Now I can turn the parking lights on and get the turn signals to turn on white. When I activate the turn signal, it turns amber.
