If it's in your vehicle the gun and the clip have to be in two separate locked "Boxes" or areas

That would be considered carrying concealed and illegal without a permit. The law specifically states the glove box and utility box as a no-no. Depending on what city/county one lives in determines how easy it is to get a permit. City of LA has about 4 million people and less than 1,000 permits.

Seems a little self defeating if your being car jacked....
Maybe carjacking is a New Orleans thing....

@COXPLORER wow I've never seen that mount before. Looks sweet. I was between center console or door. I'm right handed so the center was best. It only took 30 min. G43 $450
    Blackhawk $30
Lowes screws and caps $2.00. Super happy with the way it turned out.

It happens here too. San Diego county will not issue a permit unless a VERY good reason.

Does your center console lock? I'd be afraid to leave it in the car in the case it gets broken into

@BKinzey I'm in Missouri and its 100% legal. It actually has to be concealed. We only had to have a permit to aquire As far as car jacking it can be out in a couple seconds or less.@floodedkiwi

As often as I hear that, I wonder why people choose to live there.

That's not true, they can be in the same locked case but the mag can't be loaded in the firearm. I will say a lot of LEOs think they need to be separated and explaining the nuances of the law on the side of the road is best avoided.

I'd suggest the firearm be in a locked case and out of eyesight should one get pulled over. If you admit to the officer you have a firearm in your vehicle they, by law, can check to see if it is unloaded so it is generally best to avoid any fishing expeditions by LEO as to what you are carrying in your vehicle that is not in plain sight.

For shits & giggles this all goes out the window if the LEO happens to be a Game Warden because we all could be poachers so the state gives them extra leeway.

    ETA:
This is in CA as the original question specified CA.

I responded to questions specifically about CA. Of course your state, country, or planet may differ.

In some counties of Missouri have their own sub laws for weapons. The county I live in encourages ccw. It's always been legal to open carry in Mo but January 1 2017 Missouri legalized conceal carry. We have to announce the weapon immediately upon interaction with law .I didn't start this thread to argue what the laws are but just my approach to installing a ccw in a 2 Gen Tacoma. I would definitely check your local laws before doing this. Thanks for viewing.
