Good idea, I like this. I have a safe in the console, but mounting it like that will give me more room and easier to access it.

Have a CCW permit so all good there. Iowa just passed Stand your group too. Finally.... The town adjacent to where I live was at one time referred to as little Chicago. There were shootings on a weekly basis. Gang activity.. I think the local LEO finally got a handle on it, but still dangerous over there after dark.

image.jpg This is the actuator I'm using to mock up a hidden switch to release a lock for the lid. Hope it can happen. I always believe Locks keeps honest people honest. I always take gun with me out of truck for any extended amount of time.

Here in AZ they encourage you to keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire at the threat. None of this "separate, locked compartment" business.

I was considering an under the steering column mount but thinking I might hit it with my legs too much. Something like this.

As a gun enthusiast, if I'm in control of a running vehicle, that is my first choice. Egress is always best, and you can technically use the truck as a weapon if forced.

But, I respect your right to choose differently. Nice install OP.

I was going to do this same mod but, after reading through all the threads I decided to go with a vault in console. Didn't want to risk anyone having access other than me! I've been pretty happy and the install takes about 10 minutes.

In TX no permit required to acquire and no permit required to carry in vehicle loaded or unloaded, round in chamber or not. It just cannot be in "plain view" - which doesn't necessarily mean concealed, just not laying on you seat or dash - duh
The “plain view” provision is not location-specific; in other words the gun doesn’t have to be in the glove compartment, a case, or anywhere else in particular, it just has to be hidden from view. The gun owner, even without a CHL, is free to wear it in a holster as long as he/she stays within the vehicle.

    GOD BLESS TEJAS!!

We know. There is always a “but”. Nothing is ever that easy when dealing with criminal law. However, the law is pretty clear and not too hard to grasp.

Lawful carry of a gun while in a vehicle in Texas
only requires the following four qualifiers:
    • The handgun must NOT be in plain view.
    • You are NOT engaged in criminal activity (excluding Class C traffic misdemeanors). If you are, then you have bigger problems to worry about!
    • Federal law does NOT prohibit you from possessing a firearm.
    • You are NOT a member of a criminal gang.

Do you already have their paddle holster? I have their Cloak 3.0 for my Sig P290 and LOVE it, but with the docking system, I have to use the paddle setup. I figure it'd be ridiculously easy to transfer from the Cloak to the paddle/dock. I'm considering putting it on the side of my center console (parallel with my shifter) as it still allows for legroom and great access. I'm only concerned about how much it sticks out from whatever you're mounting it to. Please oh please post of photos after your install as I'm soon to (pardon the pun) pull the trigger on a purchase of their docking setup.

Yes I already have the paddle holster. Used it for a full week hunting trip not too long back and loved it! As long as you keep your belt tight. Are you thinking something like this? I'll try and get installed this week and take some pics.

Exactly like that, but maybe angled a bit more towards me. I use the Sig paddle holster that came with my gun, but would quickly move to Aliengear'sto be compatible with the dock.

You guys are lucky, I'm in NY only people carrying concealed around here are cops and criminals, I can only use my glock for hunting, target shooting and possess on premises. Concealed is a different licence and they don't give those out here.

In Louisiana you can carry it in your console or on your seat or floor - loaded - no need to hide it - no permit required.
When out of the vehicle you can carry it in plain view without a permit.
To carry concealed on your person (or in a case or purse, for example) you need a permit which is apparently not that hard to get.

(I own a couple of guns but do not carry them about on my person or in my vehicle FWIW.)

You shouldn't leave your gun in the console. I see this an option for storage when you're in the vehicle but for fucks sake, be a responsible gun owner and don't leave firearms in your vehicle.

My neighbor did this. One night his Pistol walked away, and he didn't even tell the internet where it was.

Thats not a realistic expectation. There are places you can't go with a firearm so it needs to be left in the vehicle.

Not sure what is irresponsible about leaving it in a LOCKED vehicle.

Precisely. There's been situations where I've headed into a retail store only to find a sticker on the front door stating that firearms are not allowed, so I U-turn it back to my truck and stash my pistol inside.

I can't take my gun into work or into my family member's school.

People get too hyped up about guns. Its in a locked car. Someone stealing it and using it is no more my fault than someone stealing my Tacoma and running someone over with it.

Be a responsible Tacoma owner. Never let it out of your sight!!!

I just wish the states that do allow could standardize on the rules.....In Ohio: You have to have a CCW permit if you want to have it loaded in the vehicle and it must be on your person or in a locked compartment (That might have changed though). The console vaults sure do look nifty though, I currently have a vault under the seat and the suicide doors on the AC make it a real pain in the backside when I need to take it off to go into a hospital or church.
