That's extremely odd. I would bring that to the dealers attention because it should not be doing that. Do you have an aftermarket alarm?

Edit: he didn't pretty sure of that. The 20-30 secs before the truck locks itself again is standard stuff

I meant he had it open at least to put his keys in the truck, sorry damn wording. That is really strange though.

regardless, I have to go down to the dealer anyway to get the recall looked at. Its not leaking but at least to have proof I got it looked at in case any shit happens to it. I will update you all with what they say that thing actually is.

Do it, my dealer won't tell me shit. Would really appreciate knowing exactly where it came from and what the truck it does because I hate the rats nest I have behind the driver's floor panel...

I didn't read every post, but here is what i know about it. The vehicles come with a alarm system that does more than the original alarm. Its a SUBSCRIPTION system so you pay a monthly or yearly fee. One feature is engine immobilization. It also allows the salesmen to open any vehicle on their lot with a master fob. So they don't have to find every key for each vehicle you may want to look at while browsing the lot. It more features but I don't remember what all they told me.

So before I could drive off the lot, the salesmen pulled out a "plug" from a bag inside the owners manual cover. He did something with the key and plugged in this little thing into that port to fully disable this system. I could re activate at a later time if I wanted to pay for the subscription. Ill update this when I can find the name of the alarm system in my paperwork. Kinda of like a LoJack but a different company.

No aftermarket alarm... aftermarket ARMs but not Alarms.

Yes that 20 second shit has bitten me a few times. Once we were x-country skiing at night while the snow storm was full on still snowing. Set keys down in back of truck (honda) put skis on, shut door and click...oh shit (buzz kill) my keys are still in the truck. WTF... walking home in cross country ski boots at night up a hill in the snow... brutal.
    Try not to do that.

    Are you the terminator? o_O

I would see what the dealer says about that because that has the potential really mess up your day. Or you can do what I did.

I'm on that... thanks for the linky! I'm serious about the snow deal... one of the best nights skiing and one of the worst nights, all in the same night.

So good news, no problems with my diff gasket. (what the recall is for). But that little light thing was definitely for the alarm, and Ive never seen it light up because of an issue with the brain of the alarm, which got replaced... Guess its a good thing I asked.

This. And have them remove it correctly. Purchased a CRV that had this type of alarm on it. Dealer technicians did some nasty wire splicing. That alarm would go off for no reason. Finally went back to dealer and have them remove it correctly.

Also, the little device you posted starts out as a key management device for dealers who later down the road can turn them into an "alarm addon". Dealers have a master keyfob they can program to the vehicle using the device so it easier for the salesman to show the car rather than having to go and get the keys to every vehicle. Once the vehicle is sold, they plug in a small chip cover into the device that disables the key management system and only the 2 remotes that have been programmed to the car will work.

If you look at your truck, for those of you who do not have the alarm installed, you will see this small plug as well which is most likely covered with a small plastic cover if your truck was sitting on the dealers lot.
