My 2016 Tacoma drivers seat is showing a lot of wear at the lumbar area and side bolster. I have a little over 10k miles on it, less than a year old. My 2003 Tacoma showed no wear after 13 years! I'm getting discouraged that this truck will hold up. I took some pictures and will be calling Toyota corporate as I find the dealer wants to pass off premature wear as normal..

    Damn. That does seem excessive.
Is it just the back? Is the bottom edge of the seat wearing out too, where you get out of the truck?
That's usually the first place I've seen wear like this.

I have similar wear but more on the bottom side of the seat that I rub across every time I get in or out of truck.

No, just the areas shown. This is very discouraging..
If I get Toyota to replace the seat cover, I'll be buying some durable covers to go over the seats.

Sounds like a good plan. I've been thinking about getting some Clazzio seat covers.

My passenger seat gets creased whenever someone sits there which is rare. My drivers seat which is used everyday has no problem. When I told my dealer about it, they said, "let's keep an eye on it" just another blow off.

I have the same issue with just about 15000 miles on my truck. I am also not too happy about this.

    Is this real life?

Are you wearing sand paper pants? Lift your ass up off the seat more. Stay in the truck more = less wear because you aren't sliding in/out.

I am 6ft and 185lbs and most of the time I have khacki's on for work. I can't believe that the seats are wearing this bad already. I have had the truck since September of 2016. I currently have a cheap cover over it as I was tired of looking at how bad the wear was!

For some reason I need a shoehorn to get into my 16. I had no trouble when I had a 1998.

I'm interested to see what Toyota says...I was noticing that even between 6-7k. I definitely don't feel it's right, even if you wear sand paper pants...ouch! lol My gf ended up getting me a set of Carhartt seat covers. They are pricey, but they certainly aren't going to show any signs of wear like the seats do.

Yeah, I'm really not happy about this. I only wear "sand paper pants" on occasion.

I had a similar issue on an Acura product with leather. Could be different with different material but, I'll share.

It was about 9 months old with maybe 18k on it when they decided to fix it.

    BUT

I reported the wear on a regularly schedule visit and the wear was similar to yours. In other words no holes, rips or tears but obviously compromised. They wouldn't repair it until the material started coming apart...which it did. Nothing like still have occasional new car smell with torn seats.

The good news is they did re upholster the seat without protest, the bad news is, it didn't match the other leather in the car.

You may have better luck with material matching because your seats are fabric.

And for the record, I've always had longer drive lengths so less getting in and out and I weigh in at ~150 pounds so that wasn't the issue.

IMO the leather Toyota & Lexus use is great. Even after putting 100k on several of their vehicles, I've never noted wear.

AS I have stated in other posts my wife and I have owned Toyotas consistently for 30+ years--however at some point I have to ask myself WTF has happened to their quality. Here's what the driver's side bolster on my '09 with 138k looks like:
