I just got a new lightweight setup I've been wanting to try

 

the type of fishing we typically do at the fishing well is called "tight lining" or something like that.

essentially you have your line, then a little clamp weight and probably 12-18 inches down from the weight is a hook. You put the minnow on through the end of the tail, or in the lips so it stays alive, then you drop her all the way down to the bottom and crank it up X ammount of cranks, and just wait for a bite then set the hook etc
and the lightweights lend them selves very useful to this application thats why i got one

super easy and a fun ass time when they're biting like crazy

Yup! I love my cast net just for this reason! Cut bait works the best other than live bait. I've had great luck with perch and Shiner minnows.

 

I usually have one pole set up to catch perch, cuz I like to fight em on my ultra light, and another for catfish. That's my lawn chair beer drinkin set up.

 

Never caught a catfish before, I'm still a novice fisher. Would be down AF

 

You outta try cat fisting looks like fun.. I believe it's also called noodeling.

 

its not super intense, but pretty fun nonetheless. I grew up in northern houston right along the san jacinto river and thats the only thing we used to fish for. and when the river was flooding after a big rain and they let the dam loose was when they really started biting.
we also used to take the aluminum boat out and do some jug-lining that was fun as hell. it should be damn near illegal we literally would set up 25 per person on the boat so typically close to 75 and within 2 hours have enough to have a block party fish fry.

I think noodeling is the better word.. People might get the wrong idea if you say "cat fisting"

Noodeling sounds like your having a naughty relationship with the pool toy in my dirty mind. Either way looks dangerous but fun an sounds dirty.

 

It's all fun until you find yourself a snappin turtle, then it's nub city.
