Lol not terrible. The only heavy thing is the router table. Mostly old boat parts in the box so i dont go in there much.

Here's a pic of my garage's bench... I know where everything is, so it may look messy to you....But not me...hehe
    DSCN1205.jpg

and my Dad died 7 yrs ago and left me a basement full of woodworking tools, so I had to scramble and build a 16' x 16' shop on the back of the garage... In here, I've got most of these big tools hooked up to vac system on the wall.....
    Lathe
    Jointer
    Drill Press
    Osilating Sander
    Router Table
    Disc Sander
    Table Saw (2)
    Band Saw
    Radial Arm Saw
    Planer
Then an assortment of smaller hand tools.... This place makes a for nice place to be all winter....It's heated, of course. The nicest thing about this shop is....I can go out to the garage from my basement and then into the shop... Do not have to brave the winter weather...!!

...finally got around to adding some storage (drawers and shelves) under the workbench... one nice thing about doing some projects in figured wood is you get to use the offcuts/extras on your shop furniture! ...unfortunately, ...i'm still running out of places to put "stuff"...

I'll play! I still haven't decided what finish to use on the oak. Found these old kitchen counters on Craigslist. There are many more, scattered arround the garage, screen porch and covered side yard.

I found this name plate stashed away somewhere. I bought the house from the heir of the first and only owner - the son of Lt Popov. When I remodeled I put the name plate in a wall cavity with a current newspaper and a few other things. Someday someone else will find it.

Just got a work bench. Someone was throwing a few away so I got one. Seems pretty sturdy. Its just made from 2x8s and 4x4s and is a little over 6 feet wide and 2 and a half feet deep. Ill probably pick up a little vice and maybe a bench grinder to put on it. This side of my garage is never this clean so I had to snap a pic after making room for it.

anyone have a lead on where to purchase some heavy duty bolt bins?

I currently use 5 gallon buckets to separate washer/nuts and bolts. Dumping them on the floor to find that one bolt is a huge pain..

Great thread revival going on here.

I myself have gone through several phases of different kinds of work benches, and have a few ideas of more I want to build. Someday. At first it was flip up benches. First was a flip up bench out of left over plywood from a house build and a sheet of pegboard. I hate pegboard.

    Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.43.53.jpg

I didn't like the massive sheet of pegboard and the flip up wasn't stout for hammering. So I made a different flip up bench from plans I saw in a woodworking magazine that I liked, I used 3/4" MDF, the pegboard to build the doors and used scrap pine from window moulding I was making to house plantation shutters I made for the house.

    Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.26.23.jpg

Around the same time I made my second flip up I came across some old hand planes I had to have at an estate sale. The house got sold. So I made saw benches and found plans to build a Roubo bench out of 8' 2x6's.

    Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.37.39.jpg

The workbench was built on the saw benches out of yellow pine 2x6's. It has a close friend a tool chest I built that's on casters so I can wheel it close to me so I can grab tools when working.

Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.37.08.jpg Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.33.50.jpg Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.34.31.jpg Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 02.34.12.jpg
    Screen Shot 2019-04-10 at 03.05.32.jpg

Still using this Roubo it has a quick open tail vise and a leg vise from Lee Valley. Bench is 5' long but if I need it longer I just slide the tail vise out for some support. I've done more than just woodworking on it, I'll lay plywood on it or use adapters for a steel vice, made an AR15 on it, and used it to hold my outboard's lower unit. I'm ok with that being that its just a heap of yellow pine that's 5" thick that can easily be flattened again and look pretty.

Next one will be a Moravian workbench out of a slab of hardwood.

My workbench is a fluid idea, it changes from project to project. My 'inside' workshop is the front half of our garage, and the main work surface is a 48"x84" door that I got from where I work (a hospital O.R.) when the place got a remodel several years ago. The door sits on an old desk, which in turn is raised on cinder blocks to a good work height. Picture shows it when I was building a 1/4 scale radio control airplane about 10 years ago. Shelves in the background had many uses, too. The bench in the background is mainly for stained glass and reloading. The large bench gets whatever project won't fit the small one. I have another workshop in a 15x20 foot shed outside, where I do my woodwork projectsL-19 wing struts 005 (4).jpg DSC00652.jpg

Still need to install the leg vise but so far so good. Drawer fronts are on but apparently didn’t have a pic of it.

nice look w/ the built-in cabinet/drawers and two-tone w/ the paint! ..and should offer a lot of storage, which is never a bad thing!

Thanks! Yeah, went for a shaker style once I realized how important space would be in the wood shop. Laminated HD pine. Was a PIA to plane but it was a good excuse to buy a planer!

The shop is actually a horse shed that was with the place when we bought it. Added floors and closed it in. Not insulated so the winter it is mostly unused but it’s a dedicated space and the wife still gets to park on the garage!
