On my 2015 Tacoma, I didnt have side steps, but I found that truck to be a bit lower and I could just get in and out like a car (almost lol). This did cause the bottom side support to crinkle fast.

On my 2017 I wanted to save the seat from crinkling, and I noticed it was a little bit higher off the ground then my previous Tacoma, I got the foot step this time. On the passenger side its alot easier to get in and out becuase you have arm hold (what ever its called) on the top of the door. The drivers side does not have this, so I have to grab on to the wheel or pillar to support myself in.

My question is, what is the reasoning behind this? Any tips? any fixes?

A-pillar hand hold. Toyota is stupid as F!ck for leaving it out of this gen. I'm patiently waiting for an aftermarket or new model year to release it.

Was it on the second gen? I don't remember ever needing to use it it wasn't something I noticed like I do in this one.

Op. Sorry I cannot answer your question "why is it missing". People have guessed that it's either sightlines for driver or cost cutting on Toyota corp.

I found it very useful in my Yamaha rhino, every vehicle with some sort of roof/ roll cage should have one in my opinion.

Yeah. For those of us with bulging or herniated discs, this oh shit bar is crucial. I'd file a lawsuit claiming it's not accessible and Toyota needs to supply us with a reasonable accommodation. Serious face. :transformer:

Probably a cost-based decision. Just like omitting a glass breakage sensor.

Land cruisers have them on both sides

I saw an article about an airline that made a small change to their airplane meal, 2 olives instead of 3 on a salad. In a year they saved 30 million dollars... So I can see this, but there could of been other things to save on. On a truck this feels like it should me standard.
