So after months of trying to figure out what I wanted I overlooked a possible crucial part. I've been calling shops trying to get the best quotes and with each shop I've talked to only one knew about the Bushing. And he said they call toyota to have them send the part to the shop. Is there a good place to buy this online? I'd still like to have the Bushing replaced while it's being worked on. The shop that is the most reputable and best priced doesn't know how to go about replacing it or how long it would take or even if they have the tools.

    I know..search function....but I value everyone's fresh opinions on the matter.

I believe there is a TSB out from Toyota that will be free

If the guy is calling toyota to get the part, he's just getting a replacement part from toyota, not the ECGS. You should buy from ECGS directly, and any shop that works on diffs and CV axles should be able to handle it no problem.

ECGS has detailed instructions for installation, you could send them to the people you're talking to so they have a better idea what it is.

Okay, so I can just call my local diff shop I've been at before then. I even told him "aren't you just replacing it with the same damn part?"

Well you're not if you are getting the ECGS bushing, you're replacing the existing needle bearing with the 3rd party designed bushing. But yes they're basically the same functionally.

This is what you're looking for: http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-8536125-toyota-8-clamshell-bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html

Some people even have their toyota dealership do the labor. A lot of off-road shops that do lifts will probably also be knowledgeable about it if they work with tacomas frequently, it's not an uncommon mod.

You may want to buy or rent the tool for your shop. Otherwise they will split the clamshell and do it the other way costing more money as far as labor goes. Unless they have the tool.

Wow! Lots of good info there! After reading that I looked at my order that I placed for the Bushing and realized I didn't buy the removal tool. With the instructions and videos on ECGS do you think the shop won't be able to do it? Should I not worry about it and trust the shop will be able to swap it while doing my lift? Or should I buy it?

Personally I'd provide them a tool. I think I talk about finding a shop to do it and what that entails in one of those two links

Trust but verify, don't blindly think they'll be able to install, make sure to communicate with them.

    From my post:

BTW repair shops aren't huge fans of people coming in with a self-diagnosis
(shocking I know) So be prepared to hunt around for a shop that will be willing to perform the job, putting on customer-supplied parts, with a customer-provided diagnosis.... particularly on a brand new still-under-warranty vehicle. It will help if you walk in with the install procedure from ECGS printed out, and parts in hand. Any shop that can replace a CV axle should technically be able to complete the job within a couple of hours.

I saw that while reading and thought to myself about how true it is when shops look down on self diagnosis. But I was on the phone with them and he actually took what information I had and started researching based on what I had mentioned from this site. While on the phone he actually browsed this forum "allegedly"

Well he sounds like a guy to work with. If he's showing interest, I'd lean toward them for a start. Go talk to them in person, learn about the process yourself so when explains to you what he will do you can cross-reference to see if it sounds like he knows what he's talking about. It's not brain surgery...

ECGS is local to me... I may just let them do mine and put a lift on while they're at it. :)
