Just noticed a couple of weeks ago that my roof has peeling paint with rust forming. It basically covers the entire roof. It almost looks like the roof was scratched before the paint peeled. This truck has never been by tree branches or anything else. I saw online where someone else had this issue. Is this an issue that others have experienced? Has Toyota admitted to there being an issue?

I had an 06 that I sold a while back that had the same issue but it did spend most of it's time out in the Arizona sun, funny thing is the rest of the truck looked pretty good.

Paint that is not cared for and neglected will break down, flake, and rust. Not Toyotas fault.

It's important to inspect, wash, polish, and seal the roofs of bigger vehicles. Most people don't check their roofs and can't see things like bird droppings, tree sap, etc. So that acid sits there and eats completely through the paint.

You have to maintain the roof like any other part of the truck or the paint fails and you get rust.

If the rust is bad, it likely is most cost effective to get a new roof. But go to a reputable body shop for an idea of how to fix.
