That's awesome! You did a nice job, that's a cool looking kit. I keep digging through my model stash looking for some inspiration, no luck so far.

Airfix DHC Beaver kit from somewhere between 1973 and 1987.

To give you a backstory, this kit was built by my Grandfather. I never had the opportunity of meeting him (I'm adopted and its a long story) but I recently met my biological family and I was given a bunch of his models. I'm in the process of refurbishing the ones that were given to me. Beaver's, Cesna, StuKa, F4F Wildcat etc. etc.

I would like to share though that I found this exact vintage model kit on Ebay and I am going to build it. This kit came with two options and I plan on choosing the floats as well. I will also be posting some of these models on Instagram if any of you want to check that out. There's a link in my sig for my Instagram.

Good luck with the build man, cool that you have your Grandfathers models. Older Airfux models build up nice, please post pics when you're done

Thanks man! I will definitely post up the pics. I've got to finish another ongoing model project before I can tackle the DeHavilland Beaver. I'm really looking forward to it.

My Grandfather bought two kits because I have both land and sea versions. What I thought was neat is that he didn't use the British Army markings for the land version of the build. He used the same decals that he put on the floater. Note the tail number. He definitely enjoyed weathering his models. My photo's don't do them justice.

Well I've done a bit of research and actually found a picture of the plane with the same tail number. It looks as if the plane was painted International Orange with flat black on top of the cowl. I only say this because of another image I found that was computer generated for a 1/144 scale model. I might try to go this route if I can find a place that will make custom water transfer decals. I can't seem to find anything on this aircraft other than the two pictures below. That is a lot of orange!

There are a small number of decal companies out there that make a wide variety of aircraft decals. I suggest you take look at http://www.hyperscale.com, there is a ton of info available and lots of knowledgeable modelers. It's the modelers version of Tacoma World. Post questions there and you'll get answers.
I was a dedicated armor and aircraft modeler for over 20 years until I had to give it up. By the looks of your Grandfathers models he was an accomplished modeler.

Edit. The Navy still flies a Beaver and, I believe a Otter, at the Test Pilot School at Pax River. I saw it flying today, love that aircraft.

Thanks for the link to hyperscale! I've been into models since I was a child. 40 years old now and still enjoy putting them together. It is very hard to find the time so my builds usually take a while. What I find so crazy is the love I have for putting models together is the same as my grandfather who I never met. It's fitting. My birth mother thinks it's really cool I have the same love for airplanes and models like he did.
The Beaver is a really cool plane! I love the way it looks with floats!

My dad was a river boat captain in Viet Nam, I built this and put it in a display case before he passed. I now keep it on display at my house.

There's some good stuff in this thread! Always nice to see other people's work.

Here's some of mine from the past couple years, 1/35 and 1/48. I mainly build armor and some sci-fi, with the very rare aircraft thrown into the mix.

First one after not building anything since I was a kid. Working on a 1/350 scale Titanic now. Then I’m starting in on building a wooden model RC schooner. Winter is here now so I’ll have plenty of time on my hands.E05F9364-FFE6-4311-B713-BE27823D365D.jpg

Nice work. What kit is this? Looks like you have some photoetch; was that part of the kit or aftermarket? I've not yet built a ship. Would like to some day, but jut haven't taken the plunge.

It’s a Trumpeter 1/350 kit. Parts are beautifully done. Hardly any in-perfections in the molds. It also did come with the photoetch. All in all it was a great kit. I got it from scalehobbyist.com
