Icon stage 3 with tubular lift kit. American racing 17x8 inch wheels. BFG 275/70r17 tires. MBRP S5338P 3" Cat Back, Single Side Exit exhaust. Custom trdecals.com trd decals. Debadged.
when lifting a 3rd gen trd off road, if I don't plan to do much off roading, should I get 17 inch rims with smaller wheels rather than 285/75r16s???? If so what size?

See my signature for a link to what tire size you can fit.

Lift alone will not help you fit 285s, You will need some trimming and possibly cutting of plastic and possibly a cab mount chop (CMC). Try search function and you will find many threads on fitting 285s.

Tire calculator will be your friend here.

    265/75/16 is a good size
    If 17s go with 265/70/17

265/75/16 is the biggest you can run without lifting. If you add some wheels spacers, this is a nice look and what I run!

Lifting alone does not allow you to run larger tires.

    You're back!

100% will need a CMC if going 285s. And BFH mod to the pinch weld. I rubbed there more than anywhere.

Look in to 255/85 tires. Or 255/80.
