2017 Quicksand Tacoma TRDOR Access Cab
Today I picked up a Quicksand Access Cab 4X4 OR with 6AT and Premium & Tech Package and tow package from Sierra Toyota in Sierra Vista, AZ.

Access Cabs are thin on the ground in SE AZ, so I ordered from the factory. I placed the order March 9, the build date was April 13, and the delivery date was May 1, 2017 (53 days).

The process was easy. I started with TrueCar which is recommended by Consumer Reports. My request was sent to 3 dealers. All 3 contacted me but only Sierra Toyota was enthusiastic about a factory order. Sierra beat the TrueCar price by a little and hit my number on the trade-in.

Taking delivery was stress free. There was no sales pitch for tinting, alarm systems, paint sealant, extended service contracts, financing or prepaid oil changes. None. Instead I spent a pleasant 15 min BSing with the dealership's owner about good trails to run in southeast AZ.

I traded a 2102 Access Cab 4X4 4-cyl AT. That truck was bulletproof but I had to beat it like a rented mule to get it up to speed on the interstate and stay there. I drove the new truck about 60 miles to get home, and while the transmission does hunt some on the interstate on hills, as noted by many TW posters, it's leagues better than the old 4-cyl.

Thanks to all the TW posters who detailed the pros and cons of this truck. Especially helpful to me were the positive comments on the OEM tires from smitty99 and Z50king. I decided to keep the OEM tires instead of getting something else. I think I was a well-informed shopper thanks to TW. Whether I was a smart shopper, well, we'll see how it pans out.
