Yea you're right about the financing and extended warranty stuff. I think that alot of this electric/hybrid stuff is probably not that profitable unless you're toyota with their prius line. The domestic 3 feel like they need to have a hybrid line because Toyota has one and they'll let it hang around if they think it has a future. I bet a lot of the truck profits prop up the less profitable stuff

Different story b/c mine was 3 yrs old, but my '10 had 6600 miles when I got it. Guy leased b/c he couldn't afford to buy credit-wise and had a kid on the way so he turned in the '10 and bought a double cab.

I'm trying to find the annual report from 2016 I was looking at a while ago so I can put actual numbers to my words. I think it was close to 40% of the profit attributed to finance. I may have to update this post tomorrow when I find it.

I know it's hard to believe for some but your Dad will tell you. It wasn't that long ago we/Toyota had anywhere from 15%-18% margins. With Toyota their margins currently run anywhere from 5%-8%. Typically the more expensive the car, the higher the margins, except when it comes to Tacoma. A $36,000 D.C. TRD OR has a whopping $1,700 mark up.

Dealers did this to themselves because they're whores. Everybody is/was trying to cut the next dealer by a buck and giving most or all of the huge margins away so Toyota stepped in and cut the margins by half or more to lower the price of cars.
The dealers that were holding their margins were pissed and whores now started to advertise below invoice and making even less. LOL
Don't even get me started about those blood sucking scum bag "True car dealers".
    Enough about new.

Yes, those trucks I posted are all over the country at various Mannheim Auctions. We will buy live online without ever driving them if we need too but seldom do because why would a Tacoma be at an auction?
Never in my life did I/we ever have to move a Tacoma through the sale because they always sell and usually very quickly.
Camrys, Sienna's, Corollas and Rav4's are easy to get and purchase many as lease returns or occasional rentals.

Tundras are a little bit like Tacomas. You're not going to get one at an auction and it certainly isn't going to be a great buy if you do. We really have to work on our previous truck customers to get them to trade more often to have some semblance of inventory.

When they have you fill out a credit application, know that they are going to add 1%-4‰ onto whatever the best interest rate they can get is. Or whatever they feel they can get away with.

Has anyone successfully done this in SoCal?

I keep seeing it come up but what dealer would let you "overnight test drive"

Could take that thing on a turn and burn to Vegas and the next day say nahh man its not for me

I could see demo trucks but the one you want to buy specifically?

LOL! I've heard about that. Here in the Midwest it'd be extremely unlikely for a car to diasapear. Overnight or extended test drives are a common practice. We don't do it for everybody or just anybody though.

I'm not saying steal the truck, just saying return a truck with 600 plus miles thus diminishing value

It's in ¥ but % is same. Summary report didn't think entire report was needed.

There have been a lot of people experiencing issues with their third gens. I think his advice could be pretty valid.

I am not saying that people haven't had issues with them. I know for a fact that people have had issues with them. This forum is ridiculous though. If you say that you haven't had any issues with your 3rd gen, you are called a fanboy. If you say that your truck is a lemon, then you get called a troll. The truth is surely somewhere in the middle. I am less than a 1k miles in on my 3rd gen, so the jury is still out. No issues so far, but I didn't notice the minor annoyances on my 2nd gen until about 5k miles when my work put in speed bumps that my mud flaps would scrape on, and the kazoo sound from strong crosswinds at 50 mph+.

I dumped my'16 dclb limited after 6 months and 10,000 miles. And I heard from my salesman that the people who bought it used traded it after a couple short months too.
So 2 owners on a turd gen is usually a pretty good sign of a lemon.
I ordered a trd pro 4Runner and haven't had a single complaint in the 10 months /23,000 miles ive had it for.
I'm not saying all the new tacomas are junk but I would suggest driving it for longer than a normal test drive and find a canyon to go up to see how crappy the 6 speed auto really is

4Runner same as Tacoma and Tundra, crazy crazy resale value and BP. Generally with 4Runners, when buying new I'd recommend SR5 Premium or TRD OR as the best values. The biggest problem with the 4Runner, Toyota has been obtuse in regards to Safety Sense. Not available on any trim at any price. I guess 2018 will be the year we'll see a new model and TSS.

Agreed. I went with a 16 T4R Premium w 3rd Row. MSRP was 39,400. I paid 37,200. Looking to get another before the redesign in 18. If they put that Taco 3.5 engine in I won't buy it.
