Anyone think we will see a supercharger for the 3.5?

I looked at a tundra myself but I just couldn't see getting 12 mpg all the time. My f150 got 18 city/hyw combined with 35x12.50 tires on it.

I'd be very interested in FI for the 3.5. My 4.0 had a reasonable amount of torque down low whereas the 3.5, you really have to ring out at the top end to get the smiles per gallon.

Do you need to know, or care?
I thought about that a few times, but I just didn't want or think I needed a full size truck. For me the Tacoma fits what I wanted, price wasn't ever an issue. Saying that, I can totally understand why others would want more in a larger trucker close to same price. I paid 50K for what i wanted in Canada, lots of options for that price, but this what fits my lifestyle and makes me happy to drive.

Lucky for you you aren't 51 then, cause you more than likely would have.

Now I can't even take you seriously. Why don't you just sell it and get what you want?

Update on our 3.5 supercharger. I spoke with Dan Bronsten at Magnuson S/C at a local car show today.
They are still working on the kit for our 3rd gen.
The company is set to release a S/C for 2010-2014 FJ/2010-2017 4Runner kit first due out end of summer 2017.
After that release they will focus on the 2016-2017 Tacoma Supercharger.
He mentioned to sign up for email alerts on their site.
He couldn't specify a target date.
Thought it would be good info to share with TW.

I'd also imagine that the more people sign up for email alerts, the more incentive they will have to prioritize it.

Took 7 years for the 4Runner, and FJ to get theirs.....
Makes me sad to think I will wait 1 more year, let alone 5..... lol

I am not super surprised. Think about the number of people would wouldn't be willing to void their powertrain warranty. The number of people who might get something like this once their vehicle is paid for and it out of warranty is probably much higher. The market for these probably balloons after 5 years.

For the life of me I can't understand why people love the 4.0. I owned one for 11 years and it was a dog IMO. The 3.5 is sooooo much better.

I also looked hard at a Tundra but after driving it for a weekend and watching the fuel gauge race towards E, I bailed and got a new Taco. The Tundra was exceptionally smooth, lexus-like. If I needed a full-size, that's what I would buy. I'm really curious what the redesign in 2019 looks like from a drivetrain perspective. I suspect it will have a 8 or 10 speed tranny and maybe cylinder deactivation. They have to do something about the fuel economy.

I had Vivid Racing in Arizona speak to Magnuson since their a dealer and they were told a tentative release date of October/November. Have you happen to have heard any updates as of late?

I like the idea of the supercharger on the 3.5, but not sure I can stomach the ~$7k price tag

I agree. My 3.5 D.C. 4x4 TRD with six speed manual isn't a race car. It's a truck. No problems keeping up or passing in traffic and fast enough off the line but honestly I bought a truck not a sports car. I find that although my TRD isn't so so fast it pulls me up the hills here in northwestern Ct until my ears pop with the rapid uphill climb. I'd say it's more strong than quick. I'm not making any changes to the factory settings. I'd also hate to boost power, void warranty, spend more money, and lose mpg.
Maybe get a second vehicle like a Corvette?

My best guess would most likely be a piggyback or another add on computer that would override or correct certain aspects of the motor. This would help for controlling AFR and ignition but may not be a complete "tune" Only other option would be an entire new ECU built as a blank or with a base tune so that depending on what other mods you have you could dial it in and adjust to suit your truck.
