I brought my taco in today for the recall and the ticking noise. They told me the ticking noise is normal like everyone else that have been told.

The ticking sound is normal, the Chirping Crickets sound is not.

I had the chirping as well swapped to Royal Purple 0w20 on my last oil change and the sound was gone immediately afterwards. Have not heard it since. I am doing my 6k filter change today. Engine runs much smoother chirp gone and valve train noise is much quieter as well.

There's a bulletin out from Toyota stating not to replace or troubleshoot the HPFP. Had a couple of meetings with the service manager, foreman, and even the big shot from their corp. tech department. Unfortunately I think we missed the boat to having a possible fix for our chirping pumps as Toyota will refuse that there is a problem. This is the case at Toyota Stevinson West in Colorado at least. Pretty upsetting to have them try and pass it off as valve noise though. They wouldn't admit to it being the pump until you point out the difference between "tapping" and "chirping". It sucks that our pumps sound like shit in a newer vehicle but keep in mind it is NOT failing. Just curious if anybody has had a failure or heard of a unit actually failing?

All motor oils as long as they meets the factory specs ought to not make a difference, unlike fuel which can have some significant variations in blends, additives and content.
But it is an Interesting observation, I hadn't though about that and it does make sense since it (pump) is lubed.
I changed my oil right around 1200 miles on the clock and at 5k (always) used 0w20 Mobil1 synthetic, top tier 87 octane same brand always and never gave it another though since I've never had a noise issue, but always looked on the fuel as a possible culprit.

I haven't heard of any failures yet either, but give it time, this is the 3rd Gen forum so...But $1400 is stupid money for such a small gadget, and for it to be subject to making funny chirping noises and then for them to tell you to go and bite the big one?? Ah-ah, I'd raise hell, no way Jose.

Same issue and same pump I've been told as the FR-S. Not failing Jose. So have fun "raising hell". Do you even have the pump we are speaking of? Do you have the v6 or 4 cylinder in the SR5 TSS? I'm unaware of the TSS.

The TSS package is a Gulf States Toyota port installed package they put on the SR5 trucks. Consists of some ugly as homemade soap wheels, carpet floor mats with TSS on them and a set of stickers on the bed side. Oh yeah and a $3500 mark up on the price.

Just dropped it off . It was making the noise and I showed the service advisor . He raised his eyebrow like "wtf is he doing here ".. I have a feeling I'll fee the "that's how it's engineered" response.

UPDATE** Service adviser called and confirmed that the noise is coming from the High Pressure Fuel Pump , and that is considered "normal" . Side note : Its somewhat annoying knowing that a 40k MSRP vehicle has a fuel pump that makes an annoying noise like that. The truck has 27k miles and that was the first time I heard it (Friday May 12) I may open up a complaint with Toyota . What do you guys think ?

Like many other things they call "normal" I think it is bull shit. Howling rear differential also an issue they appear unable or unwilling so far to fix even after replacing my rear diff once for the issue now they say the 2nd one is howling and it's normal. Unacceptable in my mind.

No if it is anything like mine you can hear it from outside the truck very easily. It is a chirping noise at idle that is very distinct and easy to pick up from 5 or 10 feet away on my truck.
