Look at several samples of each just to orient yourself to cosmetic interior/exterior changes through the years.

I personally prefer the '12+ models.

But the ultimate choice should be condition based, followed by reasonable price.

I'd recommend 2010 or 13-15 models...2012 has the secondary air pump problems it appears from posters on here. I have a 2010 with no secondary air pump and its been very dependable.

I read somewhere that 2007+ models got redesigned larger seats. Don't know how true that is.

No way you can keep the 04? I love my 15 but selling my first gen many years ago is a huge regret.

Just cosmetic: Window Tint, radio knobs, temp control knobs, Tech-Deck, Tonneau bed cover, tail gate lock, de-chromed all badges inside and out, installed back up camera and custom bedside decals.
I got out of my 04 and into a 14 with 9200 miles... I'm happy so far.

Ditto, if you are paranoid over an older 07, 08, don't be, only be afraid of the 05-06 @Grione45 I would suggest 08 just because it's a year newer. Don't know if your buying local or not but there are a couple 07-08's here on Vegas's craigslist running between 80k miles and one 08 running 280k miles I believe. Years to look at would be 07, 08, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15. Those are the least problem years.

2013-2015. The new exterior and interior is the bomb. Plus 2013 is the only year with the temperature and the compass on the rear view mirror.

Not really, but if I'm buying used, I want a truck with the least problems in the past so I don't get anymore unexpected problems related to the past problems in the future.

    :goingcrazy:

So say a guy in the past bought an 06 that has low miles, what sort of problems could he presently expect in the future

Just a guess, but I'm expecting you're that guy :rofl:Head gaskets were a problem for both 05-06, I believe it was a TSB for 05-06 to come in and get head gaskets replaced with a new set. From what I've seen that is probably the only major issue specific to those years, of course we have rusty frames, leaf springs etc.

You bought it used right? I'm pretty sure the original owner would have taken it in for the TSB, that's the only reason I was suggesting OP not to get an 05-06, that is a major repair, my valve cover gaskets took 3 hours, I'm expecting that to take at least 5-7 hours, thats a lot of disassembly.
