I'm not sure what even to call this part for an appropriate post heading. Sorry for my limited knowledge. My truck is a week old and today I noticed that a three inch portion of the plastic seal at the base of the front windshield was tucked beneath the windshield. I dug it out with a small flathead screwdriver as a credit card wasn't strong enough. This process left it a little bit marred up but not too bad. However, it isn't sitting tight any longer against the windshield. There are a couple small gaps barely noticeable unless you're looking. My question is whether it needs to be sealed tight to keep water out. The rest of that piece along the bottom of the glass looks tighter but not necessarily water tight. And there is a drain hole on the passenger side. Does anybody know if this is a problem that I need to address? It's part of the bigger plastic part that surrounds the wipers. Thank you.

No it won't leak because the windshield has lots of glue behind it. I would take it to your dealership and have that plastic cowl replaced though.

Not a problem. If that cover is removed, it still won't leak inside. It's mostly a dust and debris seal. Give it a couple of weeks and see if the outside heat will make it conform back to its original shape. Might want to try some rubber conditioner/ preservative to help it along by "softening" the material and making it compliant.
If it's an issue after a week or two, talk to the selling dealer and see if they'll replace the entire cover. I don't think the seal is an individual part.

Thanks! If it comes to it, can I assume this cowling is simple to replace myself? My search didn't turn up instructions for 2016/17.

Mine looks worse then that after I had a windshield replaced. I can assure you it will not leak.

Only a week old, take it to the dealer OP, play dumb like you never laid hands on it, and when you get it back, don't mess with it anymore, enjoy your truck and don't listen to the b/s negative post here, they're mainly lies and scare tactics.

    Cheers!

Pour water on the windshield in the affected area. Peek under the truck in the vicinity of the rear differential. If there's water on the ground there you can be sure that you have TWO leaks.

    I think you're safe.

Curious, have you driven the truck in the rain or otherwise observed the sweep of the wipers? Is the wiper getting good coverage of the glass area or do you have a decent size gap to left of the wiper at full cycle? Kinda between the "A" pillar & wiper when it begins its sweep back down.

I do live in the Pacific NW, so it rains a lot, of course. I have driven in the rain but don't recall at the moment how thorough the wiper coverage is.

That cowl is a $350 part so hopefully you can get it warrantied.

Only reason I ask is the sweep can be changed. Considering how far down on the glass the wiper is (to hit the trim) it make me wonder if it needs moved one (or a few) tooth on the spline. It's a simple process.

I don't think you can get just the seal Joe. It appears as though it's one piece.

I think you're correct. AND I hoped to delete that now deleted post before you replied. My phone and sitting in the glaring sun doesn't show pics well.

Just to follow up if you're interested. I spoke with my dealer this afternoon and they will cover it under warrantee. They confirmed what most of you suggested that the cowl is mostly cosmetic and a leaf/dirt shield. Water gets down there and is directed where it needs to go. Appreciate your input.
