Ok guys I need some help here. I replaced my passenger side wheel bearing yesterday, which went very well, however now I am having an intermittent spongy brake pedal issue. Basically sometimes my pedal is normal, sometimes it sinks down much lower than normal, a quick pump of the brakes and it goes back to normal. I have searched this topic, however it seems like all of the posts involve vehicles which have had brake components replaced. My truck is 100% stock I have only replaced the pads and shoes about two years ago I have never opened up the system. I have crawled under the truck I don’t see anything alarming, I keep checking the fluid level, it’s still at max. Guys I’m lost, anyone experience anything like this? The truck is a 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 regular cab stock as stock can be.

Bleed the brakes, sounds like you have air in the brake system. Get the air out and spongyness should go away.

I agree air would cause these symptoms, however how would air enter my brake system if it is 100% untouched from factory? Also wouldn't air in the system cause this problem, at all times? I am having an intermittent problem, I have a spongy pedal maybe 60% of the time.

Double check the 2 bolts that hold caliper to the spindle are properly torqued and not left loose..

I just did this same job to my driver's side a few weeks ago and experienced exactly the same thing. Turned out that I hadn't actually torqued my lug nuts so there was some play in the brake rotor. As MonkeyProof mentioned double-check that everything is torqued properly.

I'm lucky I didn't have my wheel fall off, but I guess that's what I get for finishing the job in the dark and at night.

Thank you well looks like I'm checking things out tonight. How did you guys torque the 4 bolts that retain the bearing flange to the spindle? They really suck bc you can only get a wrench on them. I hooked to wreches together and just got them as tight as I could...
