My day/week just went to shit.

Employee #1 decided to take unannounced "vacation". No vacation time approved, but his wife got on the phone and explained "the law" to me. She has no freekin' clue what she's talking about. Vacation time must be approved 2 weeks ahead of time. No vacation taken without special exceptions from April 1st through Oct 1st. (We're swamped) Not here? won't get paid. WILL get written up for not being here. May be dismissed. I'm pissed.

Then I get an email....."Make yourself available Thursday between the hours of 9AM and 6PM for a meeting with architect" (Long range planning meeting....Remodel that will never be done...no money)

Did I mention I'm swamped and have no time for ANY of this ridiculous nonsense?

Oh well.

Employee's wife has never worked....period.....never. She even pays someone to clean her house. And yet, somehow, she's of the belief she knows every state and federal employment law on the books. She says "I cannot deny her husband vacation time whenever he wants it". She might be interested in knowing I most certainly CAN. Her boo signed an employee agreement that states our policy on vacation time. He knows it. I sincerely believe he's TRYING to get fired so he can suck off of unemployment benefits for the summer.

NO SHOW/NO CALL equals "quitting job" in the eyes of state unemployment office. Quit job? No unemployment. As I mentioned, I'm pissed. Will make this happen if he's not here tomorrow morning.

 

By law, I'm not ALLOWED to discuss an employee's job status with ANYONE except the employee.
